A total of 63 responded, including many of the sites I read daily for my <a href=\"http:\/\/blogreport.salon.com\/default.aspx\">other gig<\/a> (Atlas Shrugs, Cold Fury, Hot Air, IMAO, Iowa Voice, Outside The Beltway, Poliblog, PoliPundit, Sister Toldjah, Stop The ACLU, and Don Surber, among others). Hawkins, appropriately enough, called it the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightwingnews.com\/mt331\/2007\/03\/rightosphere_temperature_check.php\">Rightosphere Temperature Check<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As you might expect, the results were less than encouraging. (Note: some respondents skipped questions or gave answers that were difficult to categorize, so not every question got 63 responses)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>1) Do you think the surge should go forward?<\/b><br \/>\nYes (61) &#8212; 97%<br \/>\nNo (2) &#8212; 3%<\/p>\n<p><b>2) Do you think that a majority of Democrats in Congress would like to see us lose in Iraq for political reasons?<\/b><br \/>\nYes (53)&#8211; 84%<br \/>\nNo (10) &#8212; 16%<\/p>\n<p><b>3) Do you believe that the wall on the border will ever actually be completed?<\/b><br \/>\nYes (6) &#8212; 10%<br \/>\nNo (56) &#8212; 90%<\/p>\n<p><b>4) Do you think mankind is the primary cause of global warming?<\/b><br \/>\nYes (0) &#8212; 0%<br \/>\nNo (59) &#8212; 100%<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, the &#8220;surge&#8221; responses were fairly predictable, and I&#8217;m actually inclined to agree about the fate of the border wall, but let&#8217;s consider #2 and #4 for a moment.<\/p>\n<p>I realize that there&#8217;s a rhetorical game the right plays in which they question Dems&#8217; patriotism for sport, but this suggests that a large majority of the conservative bloggers are buying into their own spin. No wonder they hate us so much &#8212; most of them actually believe we <i>want<\/i> Bush&#8217;s failed policy to keep failing.<\/p>\n<p>And <em>every<\/em> single conservative blogger who answered the question believes we&#8217;re <i>not<\/i> the principal cause of global warming? I realize there&#8217;s some hostility towards modern science, but this is astounding.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThese were followed up by some multiple-choice questions.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>5) Illegal Immigration.<\/b><br \/>\nA) Would you prefer an illegal immigration bill that tackled border security and enforcement issues only? (46) &#8212; 77%<br \/>\nB) Would you prefer a comprehensive bill that tackled border security and enforcement issues, created a legal status for the people who are here illegally, created a guest worker program, and increased the number of foreigners allowed to become American citizens? (14) &#8212; 23%<\/p>\n<p><b>6) Which of the following Democratic candidates do you think would be the toughest opponent for a Republican candidate in 2008?<\/b><br \/>\nA) Hillary Clinton (38) &#8212; 63%<br \/>\nB) John Edwards (9) &#8212; 15%<br \/>\nC) Barack Obama (13) &#8212; 22%<\/p>\n<p><b>7) If you were grading George Bush on his foreign policy for his presidency so far, would you give him an:<\/b><br \/>\nA or B (35) &#8212; 56%<br \/>\nC (18) &#8212; 29%<br \/>\nD, E, or F (10) &#8212; 16%<\/p>\n<p><b>8) If you were grading George Bush on his domestic policy for his presidency so far, would you give him an:<\/b><br \/>\nA or B (17) &#8212; 27%<br \/>\nC (26) &#8212; 41%<br \/>\nD, E, or F (20) &#8212; 32%<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Given the respondents, I&#8217;m pleasantly surprised 16% are willing to give Bush a D or lower on foreign policy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Hawkins at Right Wing News, a leading far-right blog, emailed more than 240 &#8220;right-of-center bloggers&#8221; with an eight-question survey.
