John Hawkins at Right Wing News, a leading far-right blog, emailed more than 240 “right-of-center bloggers” with an eight-question survey. A total of 63 responded, including many of the sites I read daily for my other gig<\/a> (Atlas Shrugs, Cold Fury, Hot Air, IMAO, Iowa Voice, Outside The Beltway, Poliblog, PoliPundit, Sister Toldjah, Stop The ACLU, and Don Surber, among others). Hawkins, appropriately enough, called it the “Rightosphere Temperature Check<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

As you might expect, the results were less than encouraging. (Note: some respondents skipped questions or gave answers that were difficult to categorize, so not every question got 63 responses)<\/p>\n

1) Do you think the surge should go forward?<\/b>
\nYes (61) — 97%
\nNo (2) — 3%<\/p>\n

2) Do you think that a majority of Democrats in Congress would like to see us lose in Iraq for political reasons?<\/b>
\nYes (53)– 84%
\nNo (10) — 16%<\/p>\n

3) Do you believe that the wall on the border will ever actually be completed?<\/b>
\nYes (6) — 10%
\nNo (56) — 90%<\/p>\n

4) Do you think mankind is the primary cause of global warming?<\/b>
\nYes (0) — 0%
\nNo (59) — 100%<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now, the “surge” responses were fairly predictable, and I’m actually inclined to agree about the fate of the border wall, but let’s consider #2 and #4 for a moment.<\/p>\n

I realize that there’s a rhetorical game the right plays in which they question Dems’ patriotism for sport, but this suggests that a large majority of the conservative bloggers are buying into their own spin. No wonder they hate us so much — most of them actually believe we want<\/i> Bush’s failed policy to keep failing.<\/p>\n

And every<\/em> single conservative blogger who answered the question believes we’re not<\/i> the principal cause of global warming? I realize there’s some hostility towards modern science, but this is astounding.

\nThese were followed up by some multiple-choice questions.<\/p>\n

5) Illegal Immigration.<\/b>
\nA) Would you prefer an illegal immigration bill that tackled border security and enforcement issues only? (46) — 77%
\nB) Would you prefer a comprehensive bill that tackled border security and enforcement issues, created a legal status for the people who are here illegally, created a guest worker program, and increased the number of foreigners allowed to become American citizens? (14) — 23%<\/p>\n

6) Which of the following Democratic candidates do you think would be the toughest opponent for a Republican candidate in 2008?<\/b>
\nA) Hillary Clinton (38) — 63%
\nB) John Edwards (9) — 15%
\nC) Barack Obama (13) — 22%<\/p>\n

7) If you were grading George Bush on his foreign policy for his presidency so far, would you give him an:<\/b>
\nA or B (35) — 56%
\nC (18) — 29%
\nD, E, or F (10) — 16%<\/p>\n

8) If you were grading George Bush on his domestic policy for his presidency so far, would you give him an:<\/b>
\nA or B (17) — 27%
\nC (26) — 41%
\nD, E, or F (20) — 32%<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
