{"id":10123,"date":"2007-03-06T14:37:15","date_gmt":"2007-03-06T19:37:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/10123.html"},"modified":"2007-03-06T14:37:15","modified_gmt":"2007-03-06T19:37:15","slug":"one-of-those-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/one-of-those-days\/","title":{"rendered":"One of those days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m trying to imagine what the mood is like in the West Wing right now.<\/p>\n<p>Scooter Libby, the first high-ranking White House official to face criminal charges in over a century, has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/03\/06\/AR2007030600400.html\">convicted<\/a> of perjury and obstruction of justice, stemming from a smear campaign he and the Vice President worked on together.<\/p>\n<p>Nine Americans were <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20070306\/ap_on_re_mi_ea\/iraq;_ylt=AjA8UVj0I1xF2Avzs.BV0znMWM0F\">killed in Iraq<\/a> yesterday, and suicide bombers killed 93 people in a crowd of Shiite pilgrims this morning in coordinated attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The Walter Reed scandal dealing with mistreatment of wounded veterans has become a massive embarrassment for the Bush gang, and the White House is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.editorandpublisher.com\/eandp\/news\/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003553919\">struggling to avoid responsibility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And the prosecutor purge scandal is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpmmuckraker.com\/\">hitting its stride<\/a> today, as Senate hearings expose a massive and systemic fiasco in which the Justice Department and the White House fired U.S. Attorneys, without cause, for political purposes and then lied about it.<\/p>\n<p>All of this has unfolded over the last <i>24 hours<\/i>. What&#8217;s more, this presidency was largely in free-fall before this week and seemingly had no where to go but up.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hard pressed to imagine things getting any worse, but then again, I&#8217;ve thought that before.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m trying to imagine what the mood is like in the West Wing right now.
