{"id":1169,"date":"2004-01-30T11:52:27","date_gmt":"2004-01-30T16:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/1169.html"},"modified":"2004-01-30T11:52:27","modified_gmt":"2004-01-30T16:52:27","slug":"cbs-says-no-to-moveon-but-cnn-says-yes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/cbs-says-no-to-moveon-but-cnn-says-yes\/","title":{"rendered":"CBS says no to MoveOn, but CNN says yes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We may be nearing a resolution to the ongoing controversy surrounding CBS&#8217;s decision to reject MoveOn.org&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moveonvoterfund.org\/donate\/creditcard.html\">winning advertisement<\/a> from the network&#8217;s Super Bowl commercial lineup.<\/p>\n<p>If anything, the controversy has been building all week, even drawing the <a href=\"http:\/\/bernie.house.gov\/documents\/releases\/20040128092410.asp\">attention of 27 members of Congress<\/a>, who condemned CBS&#8217;s decision, labeling the network&#8217;s move an &#8220;affront to free speech and an obstruction of the public&#8217;s right to hear a diversity of voices over the public airwaves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Unmoved, CBS hasn&#8217;t budged, despite the public pressure. CNN, however, has agreed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/business\/chi-0401300201jan30,1,137634.story?coll=chi-business-hed\">broadcast the ad during halftime<\/a> of the game.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure how many football fans check CNN during halftime, but at least it will find an audience. To help boost CNN&#8217;s ratings a bit, MoveOn has announced it will encourage its members to switch to CNN during halftime to watch the ad.<\/p>\n<p>At a minimum, the attention generated by this controversy has helped MoveOn bring enormous awareness to the group and the ad.
