(<i>Mav, this is your official Carpetbagger birthday present<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p>As the headline explains, the long-awaited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eonline.com\/News\/Items\/0,1,11731,00.html\">DVD set for the Indiana Jones trilogy<\/a> will be released in a special box set on Nov. 4.<\/p>\n<p>Like you, I asked my friend Maverick why this obviously entertainment-related news item should be included on a site that deals almost exclusively with politics and government. He explained there are, in fact, several good reasons, including:<\/p>\n<p>* There has been a grassroots campaign working to get these DVDs released to the public, and my friend argues, grassroots campaigns are, by their very nature, political.<\/p>\n<p>* George Lucas, as Mav put it, &#8220;is a huge Carpetbagger Report fan, or at least he will be when he reads it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Two of the three movies deal with Nazis, whom we fought in WWII, &#8220;which involved foreign policy making decisions.&#8221; Apparently this is relevant because &#8220;we just finished another war.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* The 2nd Indiana Jones movie was set in India. This apparently ties in, again, to U.S. foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p>* The DVD set will cost about $50, which as Mav explained, is &#8220;how I&#8217;ll spend my Bush tax cut.&#8221; (My favorite reason of them all)<\/p>\n<p>* And lastly, Mav has promised to purchase more than one of the DVD sets if Bush&#8217;s dividend tax cuts plan get passed and he makes lots of money in the stock market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a political blog, and I really wasn&#8217;t going to mention this, but as a personal favor to my best friend Maverick, I&#8217;m throwing it in as the last post of the day.
