Four or five people had a realistic shot. Now, however, it&#8217;s over and it&#8217;s time for the party rally behind the nominee so we can win this thing and get Bush out of office.<\/p>\n<p>I had been hoping for a prolonged nomination fight that would keep our guys in the public spotlight and generate attention for the broader Dem agenda. Alas, the race for the nomination has become rather dull.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry&#8217;s victories yesterday in Virginia and Tennessee should put to rest any lingering doubts. Not only has Kerry won 12 of the 14 contests so far, he&#8217;s now won &#8212; by wide margins &#8212; in every region and with every Democratic demographic.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a word to describe someone who does all of this; it&#8217;s &#8220;<i>nominee<\/i>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In case you missed them, here are yesterday&#8217;s results:<\/p>\n<p><b>Tennessee<\/b> (with 98% of the precincts reporting)<\/p>\n<p>Kerry &#8212; 41% (31 delegates)<br \/>\nEdwards &#8212; 26% (20 delegates)<br \/>\nClark &#8212; 23% (18 delegates)<br \/>\nDean &#8212; 4% (0 delegates)<\/p>\n<p><b>Virginia<\/b> (with 100% reporting)<\/p>\n<p>Kerry &#8212; 52% (54 delegates)<br \/>\nEdwards &#8212; 27% (28 delegates)<br \/>\nClark &#8212; 9% (0 delegates)<br \/>\nDean &#8212; 7% (0 delegates)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It wasn&#8217;t long ago &#8212; say, a month ago? &#8212; that the race for the Democratic nomination looked very exciting.
