I noticed that Frederick Maryland was troubled<\/a> by something he saw on Pat Robertson’s 700 Club, so I decided to check it out for myself.<\/p>\n

Before I get into this, I’d like to note that, as a rule, I don’t approve of political name calling. I do my best not to engage in it (much), but sometimes I find it’s necessary when polite language can’t fully capture the sentiment I want to express.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, forgive me when I say that Sen. Rick “Man on Dog” Santorum (R-Penn.) is completely nuts. Mad as a hatter.<\/p>\n

Santorum was a guest on the 700 Club on Wednesday, talking about the need for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. If you were so inclined, you can watch the segment online<\/a>; the interview between Robertson and Santorum starts at the 4:31 mark and goes for about seven minutes.<\/p>\n

The whole interview was madness on top of madness. It was fascinating, on one level, as I watched and wondered which of these two is crazier.<\/p>\n

I’d like to bring your attention, however, to Santorum’s remarks at the 11:24 mark.<\/p>\n

[T]he consequence is very clear. Marriage loses its significance. People will stop getting married. Homosexuals will not get married; heterosexuals will stop<\/i> getting married. And that to me is the real threat to the American family and to the culture generally.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Santorum actually believes that if gay people are permitted to enter into legally-recognized relationships, straight couples will simply stop getting married.<\/p>\n

It’s not often we get a rare peek into the mind of a loon. We should savor it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
