{"id":1427,"date":"2004-03-18T13:27:51","date_gmt":"2004-03-18T18:27:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/1427.html"},"modified":"2004-03-18T13:27:51","modified_gmt":"2004-03-18T18:27:51","slug":"senators-favorite-jokes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/senators-favorite-jokes\/","title":{"rendered":"Senators&#8217; favorite jokes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One alert reader, whom I fondly call Chief Osceola, brought a funny one to my attention.<\/p>\n<p>John Hargrave created a project he calls &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zug.com\/pranks\/senator\/index2.html\">The Senator Prank<\/a>,&#8221; in which he posed as a 10-year-old boy to ask each member of the Senate what their favorite jokes are.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zug.com\/pranks\/senator\/index3.html\">bi-partisan group<\/a> of 15 senators wrote the &#8220;kid&#8221; back with a response, some (unprompted) even sent an autographed picture along with a nice reply. Most of the jokes were harmless jokes for a child (&#8220;Why does the pig have ink all over his face? Because it came out of the pen&#8221;), but two jumped out at me as odd.<\/p>\n<p>First, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zug.com\/pranks\/senator\/senator_hatch.html\">Orrin Hatch<\/a> replied with this knee-slapper:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Learn from the mistakes of others &#8212; you can never live long enough to make them all yourself.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Is this a maxim? Sure. Could it be considered good advice? Certainly. But is this a joke? I don&#8217;t think so.<\/p>\n<p>Second, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zug.com\/pranks\/senator\/senator_santorum.html\">Rick &#8220;Man on Dog&#8221; Santorum<\/a> wrote back and said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Although a favorite joke doesn&#8217;t immediately come to mind, I do enjoy laughing.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m sorry, but that guy is just creepy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One alert reader, whom I fondly call Chief Osceola, brought a funny one to my attention.
