Win a contest, and parlay the victory into additional victories. It&#8217;s all about generating the &#8220;big mo.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just a random thought, but I&#8217;m beginning to think no one much cares about momentum.<\/p>\n<p>Voters in New Hampshire didn&#8217;t care that Iowans preferred Obama over Clinton.<\/p>\n<p>Voters in South Carolina didn&#8217;t care that Nevadans preferred Clinton over Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Voters on Super Tuesday didn&#8217;t care that Floridians preferred Clinton over Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Voters on Super Saturday didn&#8217;t care what voters on Super Tuesday said.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Obama had a very successful day yesterday in three states (Louisiana, Nebraska, and Washington), which will probably have no discernable effect on what happens today in Maine.<\/p>\n<p>The race for the Democratic nomination is obviously very close, and neither leading candidate seems able to pull away from the other. But they also can&#8217;t seem to put together a string of victories that build any momentum at all.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the Clinton campaign not only seems aware of this, they&#8217;re practically counting on the trend continuing. Clinton &#038; Co. expect February to be fairly rough, but also expect the campaign to bounce right back with wins in delegate-rich states like Ohio, Texas, and Pennsylvania. As the campaign sees it, a string of defeats in February will have no bearing whatsoever on states in March and April. <\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s more, they may very well be right.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The strategy for presidential candidates seems relatively straightforward: success should beget success.
