{"id":15229,"date":"2008-04-16T12:00:58","date_gmt":"2008-04-16T16:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/15229.html"},"modified":"2008-04-16T12:00:58","modified_gmt":"2008-04-16T16:00:58","slug":"wednesdays-campaign-round-up-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/wednesdays-campaign-round-up-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Wednesday&#8217;s campaign round-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn&#8217;t generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:<\/p>\n<p>* There&#8217;s no shortage of polls out there today. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/nationworld\/nation\/la-na-poll16apr16,1,5167344.story\">LA Times\/Bloomberg polled<\/a> three upcoming Democratic contests and found Clinton leading Obama in Pennsylvania (46-41), Obama leading Clinton in Indiana (40-35), and Obama up big in North Carolina (47-34).<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/04\/franklin_and_marshall_clinton.php\">Franklin and Marshall College<\/a> has Clinton up by five in Pennsylvania (46-41), while <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/04\/poll_clinton_ahead_by_nine_poi.php\">Strategic Vision<\/a> (R) has her up by nine (49-40). <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/04\/poll_gives_obama_narrow_lead_i.php\">Public Policy Polling<\/a> (D) is the oddball, showing Obama up in Pennsylvania by three (45-42).<\/p>\n<p>* The Obama campaign has a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/washwire\/2008\/04\/15\/obama-responds-to-cling-remarks-in-new-ad\/?mod=WSJBlog\">new TV ad<\/a> up in Pennsylvania, responding to Clinton&#8217;s ad attacking him for the &#8220;bitter&#8221; controversy. The Obama spot emphasizes the booing Clinton heard emphasizing the controversy on Monday before a labor union.<\/p>\n<p>* Speaking of unions, Clinton was <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20080416\/ap_on_el_pr\/clinton_union;_ylt=As7VqIfzt_Aa88FMvd.QS86s0NUE\">endorsed<\/a> this morning by the 45,000-member Operative Plasterers&#8217; and Cement Masons&#8217; International Association, which the AP noted, &#8220;timed its announcement for Clinton&#8217;s speech Wednesday before the AFL-CIO&#8217;s Building Trades National Legislative Conference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* And speaking of endorsements, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.post-gazette.com\/pg\/08107\/873625-35.stm\">Pittsburgh Post-Gazette<\/a> backed Obama today.<\/p>\n<p>* In an even higher-profile endorsement, <a href=\"http:\/\/my.barackobama.com\/page\/community\/post\/samgrahamfelsen\/gGC5JV\">Bruce Springsteen<\/a> threw his support to Obama this morning.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n* The Clinton campaign announced yesterday morning that that <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/04\/one_hundred_pennsylvania_mayor.php\">roughly 100 mayors<\/a> in Pennsylvania would endorse her at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>* Don&#8217;t expect McCain to pick a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/jonathanmartin\/0408\/McCain_says_would_be_difficult_to_have_prochoice_running_mate.html\">pro-choice running mate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* Top strategists for Al Gore and John Kerry <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/gore-kerry-strategists-take-strong-exception-to-clintons-elitist-remark-2008-04-15.html\">aren&#8217;t especially pleased<\/a> that Clinton had some unkind remarks about their campaigns over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>* For all the recent talk about Obama and small towns in Pennsylvania, the Huffington Post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2008\/04\/15\/obama-outraises-clinton-a_n_96806.html\">noted<\/a>, &#8220;[I]t is Obama, not Sen. Hillary Clinton, who has received the majority of donations from these very same Keystone State communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Lieberman is <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/lieberman-willing-to-star-at-republican-convention-2008-04-15.html\">still open<\/a> to giving the keynote address at the Republican National Convention.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com\/2008\/04\/15\/clinton-backer-trailing-candidates-should-drop-out-by-june-3\/\">Barney Frank wants<\/a> <i>somebody<\/i> to drop out by June 3.<\/p>\n<p>* Could Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.argusleader.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20080415\/NEWS\/80415035\">turn North Dakota blue<\/a> in November?<\/p>\n<p>* Mike Huckabee&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prospect.org\/csnc\/blogs\/tapped_archive?month=04&#038;year=2008&#038;base_name=introducing_huckpac#105778\">HuckPAC is born<\/a>, vowing to raise money to support Republican candidates.
