I can appreciate that Democrats at the grassroots level can sometimes get upset with the Bush administration and its agenda, but there’s no excuse for this kind of insanity<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Florida Republicans cried foul over a newspaper ad by a local Democratic club that said Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld should be “put up against a wall” and someone should “pull the trigger.”<\/p>\n

The ad by the St. Petersburg Democratic Club in a weekly paper in nearby Gulfport criticized the Bush administration’s handling of the Iraq war before singling out Rumsfeld.<\/p>\n

“And then there’s Rumsfeld who said of Iraq ‘We have our good days and our bad days.’ We should put this S.O.B. up against a wall and say ‘This is one of our bad days,’ and pull the trigger,” the full-page ad said.<\/p>\n

The ad continued: “Do you want to salvage our country? Be a savior of our country? Then vote for John Kerry and get rid of the whole Bush Bunch!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For these guys to even think such nonsense is troubling, to publish it in a full-page ad is inexcusable.

\nOf course, the Kerry campaign had nothing to do with this stupidity and has condemned the ad.<\/p>\n

Mark Kornblau, a Kerry campaign spokesman, said the club was not working for the campaign and called for an apology.<\/p>\n

“It is outrageous and does not in any way reflect the position of our campaign. We hope that those responsible will retract the statement,” Kornblau said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Even the county chairman of the party denounced the ad<\/a> and explained that it was sponsored by a local Dem club, which is not formally tied of the official party apparatus.<\/p>\n

Pinellas County Democratic Party Chairman Kevin Jensen told CNN that he, too, was outraged by the ad, and said party officials “don’t condone this type of stupidity.”<\/p>\n

The club, listed on the Pinellas County Democratic Party’s Web site as one of its “officially chartered” clubs, does not speak for the county party, he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If the ad’s text wasn’t enough to show you how dumb these activists are, consider this tidbit:<\/p>\n

The ad listed phone numbers for the club’s president and vice president. Both lines were busy during repeated attempts by The Associated Press to reach them for comment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
