{"id":16277,"date":"2008-07-18T12:00:07","date_gmt":"2008-07-18T16:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/16242.html"},"modified":"2008-07-18T12:00:07","modified_gmt":"2008-07-18T16:00:07","slug":"fridays-campaign-round-up-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/fridays-campaign-round-up-28\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday&#8217;s campaign round-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn&#8217;t generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:<\/p>\n<p>* Resolving a simmering dispute, the Obama campaign has indicated that Barack Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/thepage.time.com\/2008\/07\/18\/report-obama-berlin-speech-not-at-brandenburg-gate\/\">will not speak at Brandenburg Gate<\/a> in Germany during his visit, but will instead give a speech at Berlin&#8217;s Victory Column next Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com\/2008\/07\/17\/bill-clinton-eager-to-hit-the-trail-for-obama\/\">CNN<\/a>: &#8220;Former President Bill Clinton said Thursday he&#8217;s prepared to hit the campaign trail on behalf of Barack Obama as soon as the presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee asks him to. &#8216;Whenever he asks &#8212; that is, we had a good talk, and he said he wanted me to campaign with him, and I said I was eager to do so,&#8217; Clinton told reporters in New York Thursday. &#8216;He&#8217;s busier than I am, with politics anyway, so I just told him that whenever he wanted to do it, I was ready.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* The Obama campaign has quietly organized a tight-knit group of foreign-policy aides, &#8220;supported by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/07\/18\/us\/politics\/18advisers.html?_r=1&#038;adxnnl=1&#038;oref=slogin&#038;ref=politics&#038;adxnnlx=1216376434-yr0DTHBx7Y\/s\/leDgPbgPw\">huge 300-person<\/a> foreign policy campaign bureaucracy, organized like a mini State Department.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Rasmussen shows Obama pulling ahead of John McCain <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/election_20082\/2008_presidential_election\/nevada\/election_2008_nevada_presidential_election\">in Nevada<\/a> by two, 42% to 40%.<\/p>\n<p>* Rasmussen shows McCain leading Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/election_20082\/2008_presidential_election\/virginia\/election_2008_virginia_presidential_election\">in Virginia<\/a> by the slimmest of margins, 48% to 47%. <\/p>\n<p>* A little further south, Rasmussen shows McCain leading Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/election_20082\/2008_presidential_election\/north_carolina\/election_2008_north_carolina_presidential_election\">in North Carolina<\/a> by just three points, 45% to 42%.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n* The McCain campaign can feel a lot better about its chances <a href=\"http:\/\/rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/election_20082\/2008_presidential_election\/arkansas\/election_2008_arkansas_presidential_election\">in Arkansas<\/a>, where Rasmussen shows McCain up by 10, 47% to 37%.<\/p>\n<p>* Marc Ambinder <a href=\"http:\/\/marcambinder.theatlantic.com\/archives\/2008\/07\/when_was_the_last_time.php\">asks<\/a>, &#8220;When was the last time that a Democratic presidential candidate opened six campaign offices in Montana?
