{"id":1690,"date":"2004-05-03T11:21:10","date_gmt":"2004-05-03T16:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/1690.html"},"modified":"2004-05-03T11:21:10","modified_gmt":"2004-05-03T16:21:10","slug":"about-that-whole-bring-it-on-dare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/about-that-whole-bring-it-on-dare\/","title":{"rendered":"About that whole &#8216;bring it on&#8217; dare&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The president stirred up considerable controversy last July when he effectively dared insurgents in Iraq to attack our troops, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/world\/iraq\/2003-07-02-bush-iraq-troops_x.htm\">telling them, &#8220;Bring it on.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I noticed, <a href=\"http:\/\/counterspin.blogspot.com\/2004_05_02_counterspin_archive.html#108354727465065226\">via Hesiod<\/a>, that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onion.com\/\">The Onion<\/a> had a tragically funny item about the controversy in among their made up &#8220;news briefs&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bush To Iraqi Militants: &#8216;Please Stop Bringing It On&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, DC &#8212; In an internationally televised statement Monday, President Bush modified a July 2003 challenge to Iraqi militants attacking U.S. forces. &#8220;Terrorists, Saddam loyalists, and anti-American insurgents: Please stop bringing it on now,&#8221; Bush said at a Monday press conference. &#8220;Nine months and 500 U.S. casualties ago, I may have invited y&#8217;all to bring it on, but as of today, I formally rescind that statement.
