It wasn&#8217;t a good idea; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/world\/europe\/articles\/2004\/07\/19\/weapons_expert_faults_bush_blair\/\">Kay later concluded<\/a> that Bush &#8220;should have been able to tell before the war that the evidence did not exist for drawing the conclusion that Iraq presented a clear, present, and imminent threat on the basis of existing weapons of mass destruction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the president went 0-for-2.<\/p>\n<p>Bush <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/news\/releases\/2004\/06\/20040601-2.html\">on June 1<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m so appreciative of the United Nations and Mr. Brahimi&#8217;s work. It&#8217;s hard work to do what he did. He did a lot of good work and came up with what looks like a very strong government.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>U.N. envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/articles\/2004\/07\/27\/1090693926903.html?oneclick=true\">last week<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The war in Iraq was useless, it caused more problems than it solved, and it brought in terrorism.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks ago, I noted how Bush relied on David Kay as an ally in proving the necessity of the war in Iraq.
