We <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A44892-2004Aug6.html\">didn&#8217;t even come close<\/a> to either.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The nation&#8217;s payroll growth slowed dramatically in July with a paltry 32,000 jobs being added &#8212; a potentially troubling sign that the rough patch the economy hit in June was no aberration.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Remember, Bush insisted last year that if Congress passed his third sweeping tax cut proposal, the economy would create 300,000 jobs a month, every month, starting in July 2003. Out of those 13 months, the economy actually met Bush&#8217;s guarantee twice and has fallen short 11 times, including each of the last three months.<\/p>\n<p>Bush is right; <a href=\"http:\/\/releases.usnewswire.com\/GetRelease.asp?id=125-08032004\">results do matter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And, as <a href=\"http:\/\/atrios.blogspot.com\/2004_08_01_atrios_archive.html#109179730259985347\">Atrios noted<\/a>, the already weak numbers from June were <a href=\"http:\/\/briefing.com\/Silver\/Calendars\/EconomicCalendar.htm\">revised downwards<\/a>, from 112,000 new jobs to 78,000.
