It may not be a swing state like Florida and Nevada, but South Dakota — home to one of the nation’s most important Senate races — has plenty of Republicans committing election fraud<\/a> there, too.<\/p>\n

The state Republican Party has accepted the resignations of the chairman of its get-out-the-vote operation and four contract workers in the aftermath of an absentee voter application controversy on South Dakota college campuses.<\/p>\n

A state Division of Criminal Investigation probe, requested by State’s Attorney Clyde Calhoon, is under way in Brookings County. Calhoon said he expects a report today from Jon Bierne, the DCI agent conducting the investigation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The campaign operation in the state is something called the “Victory program.” But before you dismiss this as a local mess, it’s worth noting that the program is funded by the national Republican Party.<\/p>\n

The campaign misconduct in South Dakota is so troubling, it’s gotten to the point in which even Bill Janklow, a former governor, House member, and one of the state’s most recognizable Republican voices, is outraged<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Former GOP Rep. Bill Janklow, who has been out of the spotlight since serving time for a manslaughter conviction this year, lashed out Tuesday at a Republican get-out-the-vote operation that he accused of breaking election rules.<\/p>\n

“These people are cheating,” he said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “When you tamper with it, you cheat the system. And cheating in elections is the worst form of cancer because it’s uncontrollable.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
