{"id":3159,"date":"2004-12-07T12:28:47","date_gmt":"2004-12-07T17:28:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/3159.html"},"modified":"2004-12-07T12:28:47","modified_gmt":"2004-12-07T17:28:47","slug":"eliot-spitzer-finally-jumps-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/eliot-spitzer-finally-jumps-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Eliot Spitzer finally jumps in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Everyone knew this was coming, but today he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2004\/ALLPOLITICS\/12\/07\/spitzer.governor.ap\/index.html\">made it official<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, whose investigations of white-collar crime have shaken the nation&#8217;s financial institutions, said Tuesday he will run for governor in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Spitzer has long been known to be interested in the job, but it was the first time the high-profile attorney general has said he will definitely run.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The state is at a point of crisis,&#8221; the Democrat told The Associated Press. &#8220;We are bleeding jobs. We need reform in the process of government.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gov. George Pataki (R) hasn&#8217;t said whether he&#8217;d run for a fourth term in New York, but if he does, he&#8217;ll probably start off as a bit of an underdog. A Zogby poll last week surveyed the hypothetical match-up and Spitzer was up, 44-41.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll all be hearing and reading a great deal about Spitzer through the course of the campaign, but to understand why he has so many people excited, and why he was even considered as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2004\/06\/14\/opinion\/main623018.shtml\">possible running mate<\/a> for the Dems this year, I&#8217;d recommend this excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/personoftheyear\/2002\/poyspitzer.html\">profile on Spitzer<\/a> that ran in Time a couple of years ago.
