Who said this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Even if God created the world and man was made in His image, the ACLU prefers that children are told only one theory: that we are descendants of the chimp at the local zoo.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Was it a) William Jennings Bryan during the Scopes trial in 1925; or b) Gary Bauer in an email alert to members of his American Values group yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Given the context, readers know it was the latter, but the fact that it could have come from either shows we really haven&#8217;t progressed as far as we should have by now.<\/p>\n<p>You see, Mr. Bauer, evolutionary biology doesn&#8217;t explain that humans descended from chimps, but rather that primates share a common ancestor that &#8230;  oh, never mind.
