{"id":3400,"date":"2005-01-20T10:23:00","date_gmt":"2005-01-20T15:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/3400.html"},"modified":"2005-01-20T10:23:00","modified_gmt":"2005-01-20T15:23:00","slug":"ketchum-states-the-obvious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/ketchum-states-the-obvious\/","title":{"rendered":"Ketchum states the obvious"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The public relations firm who subcontracted with Armstrong Williams to flack for Bush&#8217;s education policy was kind enough yesterday to announce what the rest of us already know: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/nation\/2005-01-20-williams-usat_x.htm\">they screwed up<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The public relations firm that arranged for pundit Armstrong Williams to promote the Bush administration&#8217;s No Child Left Behind education program admitted Wednesday that the deal with Williams violated &#8220;the guidelines of our agency and our industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The statement by Ketchum Inc. came on the same day that Bush&#8217;s nominee for Education secretary, Margaret Spelling, promised to review the promotional tactics used by the Department of Education. <\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>In its statement, first published in PRWeek magazine, Ketchum acknowledged a &#8220;lapse in judgment&#8221; and said it &#8220;should have encouraged greater disclosure&#8221; by Williams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We regret this has occurred,&#8221; the company said in the statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That leaves Bush Education Secretary Rod Paige as the only person involved in this debacle who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A7707-2005Jan13.html\">still defends<\/a> giving Williams $241,000 of our money.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The public relations firm who subcontracted with Armstrong Williams to flack for Bush&#8217;s education policy was kind enough yesterday to announce what the rest of us already know: they screwed up.
