As a way of keeping you up-to-date, I wanted to mention that the Senate Judiciary Committee has not yet voted on the Bill Pryor nomination to the federal appeals bench. It was scheduled for last week, as I said<\/a> last Monday, but it was delayed. (The delays had more to do with a busy schedule and nothing to do with the merit of Pryor’s nomination.)<\/p>\n

Since Congress isn’t in session this week — they take off the whole week to celebrate the Fourth of July — the earliest they could vote is next week. I’ll keep everyone posted.<\/p>\n

Oh, and just to add to the list, the LA Times is the latest in a long line of newspapers to publish an editorial<\/a> encouraging the Senate to reject Pryor’s nomination.<\/p>\n

“At this month’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, [Pryor] defended — even amplified on — his disturbing views,” the Times’ editorial board said. “His candor is refreshing but it leaves squirming senators no cover.”<\/p>\n

The Times added, “These views and Pryor’s lack of judicial experience caused the American Bar Assn. to splinter over his fitness for the appeals seat. With the Senate already having confirmed so many of Bush’s picks for the federal bench, there’s no argument for this unqualified nominee.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
