We all had a good laugh<\/a> marveling at John Ashcroft’s prudish discomfort<\/a> with “Lady Justice.”<\/p>\n

No longer will the attorney general be photographed in front of two partially nude statues in the Great Hall of the Department of Justice.<\/p>\n

The department spent $8,000 on blue drapes that hide the two giant, aluminum art deco statues, said spokesman Shane Hix…. ABC News reported that Attorney General John Ashcroft ordered the statues covered because he didn’t like being photographed in front of them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course, now that Ashcroft is off to a TV preacher’s college<\/a>, and Alberto Gonzales is his more “moderate” successor, we’ll finally get past this priggish foolishness, right? Wrong<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No one asked Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales at his recent confirmation hearings about his intentions with regard to “Lady Justice,” the 12-foot semi-nude statue at the Justice Department that former attorney general John D. Ashcroft had covered with a large blue drape.<\/p>\n

But Loop fans predicted overwhelmingly that Gonzales would keep “Minnie Lou,” as she’s called, behind the big blue burka. Appears they were right. A senior department official told us recently she’ll stay covered. “I’ve not even heard any discussion about” dropping the drape, he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
