{"id":4137,"date":"2005-05-05T12:32:55","date_gmt":"2005-05-05T16:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/4137.html"},"modified":"2005-05-05T12:32:55","modified_gmt":"2005-05-05T16:32:55","slug":"worstword-choiceever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/worstword-choiceever\/","title":{"rendered":"Worst&#8230;word choice&#8230;ever"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Of all the phrases the Speaker of the House could have chosen, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2005\/05\/04\/AR2005050402186.html\">this<\/a> was probably the wrong one.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve always urged members to travel,&#8221; Hastert ventured, &#8220;to have this type of intercourse with the world.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Which sounds terribly inappropriate in light of <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/WNT\/Investigation\/story?id=647725&#038;page=1\">this<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A Washington lobbyist under federal investigation for his lobbying activities arranged a lavish overseas trip to the island of Saipan for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, over the New Year&#8217;s holiday in 1997. <\/p>\n<p>DeLay, his wife and daughter, and several aides, stayed for free at a beachfront resort. <\/p>\n<p>The DeLay trip to the South Pacific island, originally reported by a &#8220;20\/20&#8221; investigation, was part of an effort by former aide Jack Abramoff to <b>stop legislation aimed at cracking down on sweatshops and sex shops<\/b> in the American territory, which is known as the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
