{"id":4348,"date":"2005-06-02T09:56:24","date_gmt":"2005-06-02T13:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/4348.html"},"modified":"2005-06-02T09:56:24","modified_gmt":"2005-06-02T13:56:24","slug":"conservatives-are-still-upset-about-the-law-order-flap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/conservatives-are-still-upset-about-the-law-order-flap\/","title":{"rendered":"Conservatives are <i>still<\/i> upset about the &#8216;Law &#038; Order&#8217; flap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You know, I am more than happy to let this go, but for reasons that escape me, the right is still fighting mad over the fact that &#8220;Law &#038; Order: Criminal Intent&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2005\/POLITICS\/05\/27\/delay.law.order\/index.html\">mocked Tom DeLay<\/a> in a recent episode.<\/p>\n<p>To briefly review for those just joining us, L&#038;O, which is a work of fiction, recently aired an episode in which actors playing police officers were searching for a fictional killer of two judges. In the show, the police believed right-wing extremists were involved. Frustrated by a lack of clues, one officer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/newsArticle.jhtml?type=domesticNews&#038;storyID=8621627\">joked<\/a>, &#8220;Maybe we should put out an APB for somebody in a Tom DeLay T-shirt.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>First, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/4306.html\">DeLay went berserk<\/a> and attacked NBC for the show&#8217;s &#8220;manipulation of my name.&#8221; Then, DeLay&#8217;s cohorts followed up, with the House GOP Conference literally going so far as to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/4330.html\">send out talking points<\/a> to Republican message makers on what to say about the episode.<\/p>\n<p>And now DeLay&#8217;s buddies at Free Enterprise Fund, a right-wing lobbying group, are working to keep this story in the news <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washtimes.com\/national\/inbeltway.htm\">a bit longer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In response to a TV character on &#8220;Law &#038; Order: Criminal Intent&#8221; commenting after an appellate court judge was killed, &#8220;Maybe we should put out an APB for somebody in a Tom DeLay T-shirt,&#8221; supporters of the embattled Republican leader will be distributing &#8220;Tom DeLay&#8221; T-shirts today at a Capitol Hill subway stop.<\/p>\n<p>Saying executives at NBC have used the &#8220;Law &#038; Order&#8221; series to take jabs at President Bush, Mr. DeLay and conservatives in general, Free Enterprise Fund Vice President Lawrence Hunter says this &#8220;again demonstrates just how out of touch the entertainment business is with red-state America.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Incidents like this only serve to galvanize conservatives and drive more people into the movement,&#8221; he says, criticizing in particular the show&#8217;s executive producer, Dick Wolf. The front of the shirt sports a picture of Mr. DeLay, and the back of the shirt reads: &#8220;Who&#8217;s Afraid of Dick Wolf?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, the right is taunting a work of fiction, keeping DeLay&#8217;s name in the news, and helping to remind everyone about DeLay&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/index.php?p=558\">veiled threats<\/a> against the judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>Keep it up, guys, you&#8217;re doing the work of DeLay&#8217;s critics for them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You know, I am more than happy to let this go, but for reasons that escape me, the right is still fighting mad over the fact that &#8220;Law &#038; Order: Criminal Intent&#8221; mocked Tom DeLay in a recent episode.
