Karl Rove&#8217;s role in a massive White House scandal was dominating political discussion in Washington and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/4734.html\">causing real concern<\/a> with the public. We weren&#8217;t supposed to see a Supreme Court nominee until next week, or perhaps even early August, but, as one Republican strategist put it, an earlier announcement &#8220;helps <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/nation\/washington\/articles\/2005\/07\/19\/bush_believed_to_be_close_to_supreme_court_decision\">take Rove off the front pages for a week<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So, did it work? Yep.<\/p>\n<p>After substantive articles and coverage of Rove&#8217;s scandal in the major dailies in each of the last nine or so days, here&#8217;s the rundown from today&#8217;s papers:<\/p>\n<p>* Washington Post articles about Rove&#8217;s scandal &#8212; 0<\/p>\n<p>* New York Times articles about Rove&#8217;s scandal &#8212; 0<\/p>\n<p>* Los Angeles Times articles about Rove&#8217;s scandal &#8212; 0<\/p>\n<p>* Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, and Boston Globe articles about Rove&#8217;s scandal &#8212; 0<\/p>\n<p>* USA Today articles about Rove&#8217;s scandal &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/washington\/2005-07-19-memo-leak_x.htm\">1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We were getting close to a feeding frenzy there, and the results of that <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/PollVault\/story?id=949950\">ABC News poll<\/a> looked to reinforce beliefs that this is a scandal that deserves the attention. <\/p>\n<p>Looks like the sharks have been successfully distracted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The strategy wasn&#8217;t exactly subtle.
