The Coalition did not produce a post this week, but instead is focusing attention on the work of Smith College Professor Eric Reeves, who has written a series for The New Republic this week designed to be a &#8220;weeklong crash-course on Darfur.&#8221; It&#8217;s definitely worth reading.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/etc.mhtml?pid=2730\">Part 1<\/a> &#8212; Why the genocide started, how it is being carried out, and whether it is getting worse<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/etc.mhtml?pid=2731\">Part 2<\/a> &#8212; What motivates the Sudanese government (racism, Islamism); and whether we should call Darfur a genocide (we should)<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/etc.mhtml?pid=2732\">Part 3<\/a> &#8212; The current mechanics of human destruction in Darfur; the controversy over mortality totals; and Darfur&#8217;s future in the absence of intervention<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/etc.mhtml?pid=2733\">Part 4<\/a> &#8212; The feckless international response<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/etc.mhtml?pid=2735\">Part 5<\/a> &#8212; What should be done (Part 5 will be posted in a few hours)<\/p>\n<p>In addition, I&#8217;d also encourage readers to check out the American Progress Action Fund&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/beawitness.org\/splash\/\">BeAWitness campaign<\/a>, which has produced an excellent video as part of a broader initiative to generate more attention and reporting on the genocide occurring in Sudan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regular readers know that The Carpetbagger Report is a member of the Coalition for Darfur, a bi-partisan online initiative created to raise awareness and resources to address the crisis.
