Their parodies are, therefore, hilarious and depressing at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.markarkleiman.com\/archives\/valerie_plame_\/2005\/07\/the_simple_truth.php\">Mark Kleiman noted<\/a> yesterday that The Onion&#8217;s editors &#8220;have figured out a new mission: print headlines that report the real events, but which the conventions (and cowardice) of mainstream journalism don&#8217;t allow.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Last week&#8217;s issue was a classic example. Consider <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theonion.com\/index.php?pre=1&#038;issue=4129\">this headline<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bush Awaits Orders From Rove On Handling Of Rove Scandal<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There was no accompanying article, because there was no need for one.
