Pat Roberts hold hearings on presidential advisor Karl Rove&#8217;s role in the unfolding Valerie Plame scandal.<\/p>\n<p>But Roberts, who chairs the Select Senate Committee on Intelligence, isn&#8217;t budging, saying that Rove&#8217;s role in the revealing of CIA agent Plame&#8217;s identity is already under investigation and that his critics are playing politics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sharks are in the water,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Senate Intelligence has to be nonpartisan.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s right, <i>Pat Roberts<\/i> is accusing <i>us<\/i> of playing politics, and pretending to care about non-partisanship on his committee. That would be the same Roberts who&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/week_2005_07_24.php#006157\">prevented<\/a> his Senate Select Committee on Intelligence from making any inquiry into the origins of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehill.com\/thehill\/export\/TheHill\/Comment\/JoshMarshall\/072805.html\">Niger forgeries<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p>* refuses to investigate the Plame scandal, but is prepared to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonmonthly.com\/archives\/individual\/2005_07\/006798.php\">investigate Fitzgerald&#8217;s investigation<\/a> of the Plame scandal;<\/p>\n<p>* believes the CIA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/week_2005_07_24.php#006153\">does <i>too much<\/i><\/a> to keep their agents undercover;<\/p>\n<p>* told a national television audience that Plame <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crooksandliars.com\/2005\/07\/24.html#a4125\">wasn&#8217;t really a covert agent<\/a>, despite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpmcafe.com\/story\/2005\/7\/24\/134330\/592\">all evidence<\/a> to the contrary;<\/p>\n<p>* dismissed the need for Plame hearings in 2003, less than five days after the White House was notified about the criminal probe, because the controversy was, as he put it, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehill.com\/news\/100203\/panels.aspx\">an old story<\/a>&#8220;;<\/p>\n<p>* defied comprehension by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/TRANSCRIPTS\/0401\/25\/le.00.html\">arguing in 2004<\/a>, &#8220;If in fact [Saddam] didn&#8217;t have [WMD], why on earth didn&#8217;t he let the U.N. inspectors in and avoid the war?&#8221;;<\/p>\n<p>* and broke a promise to his colleagues (and the nation) in March 2005 by announcing that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/blog\/iraqd?pid=2588\">he would not allow<\/a> his committee to prepare a report explaining how the Bush administration misrepresented intelligence on Iraq before the war began.<\/p>\n<p>And now Roberts wants to lecture Dems about playing politics and the need for non-partisanship in the Senate Intelligence Committee.
