{"id":599,"date":"2003-09-08T10:05:43","date_gmt":"2003-09-08T15:05:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/599.html"},"modified":"2003-09-08T10:05:43","modified_gmt":"2003-09-08T15:05:43","slug":"edwards-makes-senate-announcement-official","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/edwards-makes-senate-announcement-official\/","title":{"rendered":"Edwards makes Senate announcement official"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just to give you an update on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/000590.html\">a post<\/a> from late last week, John Edwards officially announced yesterday that he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/news\/nc\/story\/2850198p-2630175c.html\">will not run for re-election<\/a> to his Senate seat in North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to the state party, Edwards said that his White House run is &#8220;going exceedingly well&#8221; and said that he will &#8220;devote all of my energy to running for president.&#8221; To hear him tell it, this decision was a no-brainer. &#8220;The decision to move forward decisively to seek the nomination was not a difficult one,&#8221; Edwards said.<\/p>\n<p>With all due respect to the senator, I doubt it was this easy. Edwards&#8217; campaign is moving right along, but it&#8217;s not going &#8220;exceedingly well,&#8221; at least as far as his poll numbers in Iowa, New Hampshire, and nationwide are concerned. The smarter move would probably be to drop out of the presidential race and win a second term in the Senate.
