Earlier this month, a far-right Republican state lawmaker in Ohio introduced a measure that would prohibit gay adoption. This week, a Dem state senator decided to make a point — by unveiling a proposal barring Republicans<\/i> from being adoptive parents<\/a>.<\/p>\n

State Sen. Robert Hagan sent out e-mails to fellow lawmakers late Wednesday night, stating that he intends to “introduce legislation in the near future that would ban households with one or more Republican voters from adopting children or acting as foster parents.” […]<\/p>\n

Hagan said his “tongue was planted firmly in cheek” when he drafted the proposed legislation. However, Hagan said that the point he is trying to make is nonetheless very serious.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hagan wrote in his mock proposal that “credible research” shows that adopted children raised in Republican households are more at risk for developing “emotional problems, social stigmas, inflated egos, and alarming lack of tolerance for others they deem different than themselves and an air of overconfidence to mask their insecurities.”<\/p>\n

Does Hagan have any real evidence to support the claims? Of course not — but he has just as much credible proof as the conservatives who insist that gay parents are detrimental to children.<\/p>\n

So far, Hagan’s proposal has no co-sponsors. But then again, once people realize the way Republicans aggressively recruit the young and expose them to bizarre materials (Rush Limbaugh, Ayn Rand), I think the ban on GOP adoption has a real shot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
