Reader RM noted that when it comes to fundraising for this year’s Senate campaigns, Dems are not only doing well, they’re far ahead<\/a> of their GOP rivals.<\/p>\n

The Republican committee that handles Senate campaigns picked up the pace in fundraising in February but still trails its rival Democratic committee by almost a 2-to-1 margin.<\/p>\n

The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised $5.5 million in February, while the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised $3.8 million.<\/p>\n

Democrats still hold a big advantage on money in the bank with $27.4 million, while Republicans have $14.5 million.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I’d heard the DSCC fundraising was going well, but I didn’t realize the committee had nearly twice<\/i> as much money in the bank as their Republican counterparts. Kudos to DSCC Chairman Chuck Schumer — the committee is clearly where it needs to be right now.<\/p>\n

In fact, it’s worth noting the big picture here. The DSCC is in a position to help Dem Senate candidates with resources, the DCCC is keeping up rather nicely with the NRCC on the House races ($20.8 million cash on hand vs. $16.3 million), and the DNC’s coffers may be running low, but that’s only because Howard Dean has just spent the last year making an unprecedented investment in state party infrastructure<\/a>.<\/p>\n
