The Washington Post decided it could achieve some kind of journalistic &#8220;balance&#8221; by hiring a 24-year-old Republican activist to write a blog that promotes conservative ideas to counter a professional journalist who&#8217;s written for several newspapers over the course of a sterling 18-year career.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Marshall, at the time, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/007960.php\">offered the Post a hint<\/a> about how the paper might appear less foolish.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If they want to make a blogger Crossfire with a firebreather on the left and on the right, they should do it. It might even be interesting. But here they&#8217;ve just been played by bullies and played for fools.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Apparently, the WaPo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/news\/2006\/Washington_Post_searching_for_bloggers_from_0407.html\">got the message<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This time around the Washington Post plans to hire two bloggers for its Web site.<\/p>\n<p>The paper&#8217;s ombudsman, Deborah Howell, has informed RAW STORY that Jim Brady, executive editor of washingtonpost.com, is looking for a liberal blogger, along with a conservative one, to replace Ben Domenech who resigned after only three days of blogging, when his earlier writings were discovered by mostly liberal bloggers to be racially insensitive and &#8212; in multiple cases &#8212; plagiarized.<\/p>\n<p>The paper doesn&#8217;t plan on making any formal announcement, but the news should be welcome to many critics on the left who felt that it was unfair to hire just a conservative blogger in the first place.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, was that so hard?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember the Ben Domenech brouhaha from a few weeks ago?
