{"id":7217,"date":"2006-04-24T09:10:14","date_gmt":"2006-04-24T13:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/?p=7217"},"modified":"2006-04-24T09:10:14","modified_gmt":"2006-04-24T13:10:14","slug":"a-partisan-witch-hunt-at-the-cia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/a-partisan-witch-hunt-at-the-cia\/","title":{"rendered":"A partisan witch-hunt at the CIA?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In case you missed it over the weekend, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2006\/04\/22\/AR2006042201442.html\">WaPo reported<\/a> that the CIA is responding to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/04\/22\/washington\/22leak.html?ex=1303358400&#038;en=96b99d312427aecb&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland&#038;emc=rss\">Mary McCarthy leak<\/a> on secret prisons by doing a little more digging &#8212; into partisan affiliations.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The White House also has recently barraged the agency with questions about the political affiliations of some of its senior intelligence officers, according to intelligence officials.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget the context here. The White House has leaked classified information for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/7084.html\">political purposes<\/a> with no consequence. Indeed, as far as the Bush gang is concerned, the president can leak whatever he wants, whenever he wants. When a senior CIA official apparently decides to expose a legally dubious scheme, however, the White House wants to know if there are any Democrats at the agency that Bush needs to worry about.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it appears that McCarthy was a Dem. And yes, it appears she leaked classified information. But that in no way justifies the White House pressuring the CIA to see if there are any other Democrats lurking around.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s about turning the CIA into just another partisan agency.
