In a new poll comparing President Bush’s job performance with that of his predecessor, a strong majority of respondents said President [tag]Clinton[\/tag] outperformed [tag]Bush[\/tag] on a host of issues.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And by “host of issues,” CNN meant “all issues.”<\/p>\n

* Handling the [tag]economy[\/tag]<\/i> — Clinton beats Bush, 63% to 26%.<\/p>\n

* Solving the [tag]problems[\/tag] of ordinary Americans<\/i> — Clinton beats Bush, 62% to 25%.<\/p>\n

* Managing [tag]foreign affairs[\/tag]<\/i> — Clinton beats Bush, 56% to 32%.<\/p>\n

* Handling [tag]taxes[\/tag]<\/i> — Clinton beats Bush, 51% to 35%.<\/p>\n

* Responding to [tag]natural disasters[\/tag]<\/i> — Clinton beats Bush, 51% to 30%.<\/p>\n

* Handling [tag]national security[\/tag]<\/i> — Clinton beats Bush, 46% to 42%.<\/p>\n

* The more [tag]honest[\/tag] president<\/i> — Clinton beats Bush, 46% to 41%.<\/p>\n

* The president who did more to [tag]divide[\/tag] the country<\/i> — Bush beats Clinton, 59% to 27%.<\/p>\n

For years after Ronald [tag]Reagan[\/tag] left office, conservative activists launched a concerted campaign to convince Americans that Reagan’s presidency was a success and the former president should be remembered for his achievements. It was largely effective; Reagan is more fondly remembered now than he was while in office.<\/p>\n

Clinton, meanwhile, doesn’t need partisans to make his presidency look good — after a few years of watching Bush, Americans can’t help but miss having a competent, capable leader in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
