Last month, Time magazine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/archive\/preview\/0,10987,1186555,00.html\">reported<\/a> on new White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten&#8217;s five-point strategy to &#8220;reboot&#8221; Bush&#8217;s second term. Point #1, which Bolten intended to implement right away, was to &#8220;deploy guns and badges.&#8221; From the article published just three weeks ago:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Under the banner of homeland security, the White House plans to seek more funding for an extremely visible enforcement crackdown at the Mexican border, including a beefed-up force of agents patrolling on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). &#8220;It&#8217;ll be more guys with guns and badges,&#8221; said a proponent of the plan. &#8220;Think of the visuals. The President can go down and meet with the new recruits. He can go down to the border and meet with a bunch of guys and go ride around on an ATV.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Unfortunately, Bolten apparently meant this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/news\/releases\/2006\/05\/images\/20060518-18_d-0482-515h.jpg\">quite literally<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img src='http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/images\/ATV.JPG' alt='atv' \/><\/p>\n<p>As John <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crooksandliars.com\/2006\/05\/18.html#a8341\">put it<\/a>, &#8220;Mission Accomplished.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now, maybe it&#8217;s just me, but isn&#8217;t this <i>at least<\/i> as absurd as Dukakis in the tank?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, I guess we were warned.
