Occasionally, a Republican offers a glimpse into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbusdispatch.com\/election\/election.php?story=201635\">their motivations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Barry Bennett, chief of staff for Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Loveland, said, &#8220;Of all the things we get mail about from our district &#8212; immigration, the pension bill, Iraq &#8212; we don&#8217;t really hear a lot about the minimum wage. Not too many people work at minimum wage anymore. I don&#8217;t think it gets you anywhere politically.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As CAP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanprogressaction.org\/site\/apps\/nl\/content2.asp?c=klLWJcP7H&#038;b=1331575&#038;ct=2846581\">noted<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cepr.net\/publications\/labor_market_2005_12.pdf\">nearly eight million workers<\/a> stand to get a raise if the minimum wage is raised to $7.25\/hour.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe Schmidt&#8217;s office meant not too many of the <i>right<\/i> people work at the minimum wage?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What drives conservative opposition to a minimum-wage increase?
