Coulter hadn’t offended anyone publicly in days, so it was inevitable that she’d lash out with something like this.

Second, it doesn’t exactly help Joe Lieberman that he targeted Waters for criticism on the same day.

From Fox News:

Last night’s (8/9) “Special Report with Brit Hume” was wall-to-wall Lieberman/Lamont coverage in which the “All Star” Panel referred to Lieberman as being in the mold of “JFK or FDR”. The show kicked off, however; with a pro-Lieberman segment filed by GOP shill Carl Cameron.

Cameron started off slow, “Connecticut’s top Democrats rallied around Ned Lamont this morning after he defeated Joe Lieberman for the US Senate nomination.”

NL (clip): “We voted for change in the state of Connecticut last night, and I think people around the country are looking at Connecticut. We want to change the course, we want to change the course in Iraq.”

Cameron went on to (fairly) explain which party leaders have sided with Lamont, while airing clips from the acceptance/concession speeches. The tide turned, however, when Cameron diverted attention to Lieberman and the White House’s stance on the election.

JL: “I don’t want my party to be taken over by the Ned Lamont’s or Maxine Waters who will not give assurance to the people of America that we are prepared to do what needs to be done to protect our people in a dangerous world.”

Now, I realize the right-wing push-back against Lamont is “highly coordinated,” but when Joe Lieberman and Ann Coulter start attacking the same Lamont ally on the same day — and one of them uses racist language — you know Lieberman has strayed pretty far from the reality-based community.

Here’s a thought: how about some enterprising young reporter ask Lieberman for his reaction to Coulter’s comments?

You know what won’t help the right with its race-relations problems?
