Leach, Karl Rove is on line 1 for you&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, one brave member of Congress called the Bush administration&#8217;s approach to Iraq &#8220;one of the most misguided assumptions in the history of United States strategic thinking.&#8221; This same lawmaker added that the U.S. occupation of Iraq could increase the threat to American security.<\/p>\n<p>The funny thing is this congressman is a Republican.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Jim Leach (R-Iowa), who not only initially backed Bush on the war but also used to work for Donald Rumsfeld, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A857-2003Nov4.html\">told reporters yesterday<\/a> that he expects us to be in Iraq for at least another six years, despite the administration&#8217;s more optimistic timetable. Leach added that that our long-term presence in Iraq will create &#8220;more problems around the world and, potentially, in the United States as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And who is Rep. Leach? As the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerforamericanprogress.org\/site\/pp.asp?cid={E9245FE4-9A2B-43C7-A521-5D6FF2E06E03}&#038;bin_id={3FA7CD19-F000-4265-B67F-9B13138E98E4}\">Center for American Progress pointed out<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/news\/releases\/2003\/10\/20031021-13.html\">Dick Cheney has called Leach<\/a> &#8220;one of the most respected members of Congress&#8221; who is a &#8220;careful thinker&#8221; and &#8220;an independent voice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I bet Cheney didn&#8217;t realize just how &#8220;independent&#8221; Leach was willing to be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, one brave member of Congress called the Bush administration&#8217;s approach to Iraq &#8220;one of the most misguided assumptions in the history of United States strategic thinking.&#8221; This same lawmaker added that the U.S. occupation of Iraq could increase the threat to American security.
