I was amused by The Washington Post’s “analysis<\/a>” of President George W. Bush’s admission that secret prisons do exist and his decision to put terrorism suspects on trial.<\/p>\n

According to The Post, Bush made a series of “forceful speeches on terrorism” and unleashed a “dramatic announcement that he has sent top-tier terrorism suspects” to Guantanamo. What this means, according to The Post, is that Bush is “challenging Congress to immediately give the administration authority to try notorious al-Qaeda figures such as Khalid Sheik Mohammed by military commissions.” Thus, he has “shifted the argument with Democratic critics of national security policies and competence.”<\/p>\n

Let’s recap in case anyone is confused. When President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore or Sen. John F. Kerry adopt an altered or different position, they are flip-flopping vacillators who can’t make up their minds, men obviously not to be trusted with the reins of government because they are not decisive and lack backbones.<\/p>\n

When Bush does it, he is “forceful.” He “challenges” his critics and his change is merely a “shift.”<\/p>\n

Everyone got that? Good.<\/p>\n
