{"id":8603,"date":"2006-09-28T17:10:31","date_gmt":"2006-09-28T21:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/8603.html"},"modified":"2006-09-28T17:10:31","modified_gmt":"2006-09-28T21:10:31","slug":"mini-report-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebenen.com\/thecarpetbaggerreport\/mini-report-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Mini-report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s edition of items that definitely deserve attention, but which I just didn&#8217;t get to today.<\/p>\n<p>* As a rule, when a member of Congress sends personal emails to a 16-year-old page, and asks how old he is, what he wants for his birthday, and <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.abcnews.com\/theblotter\/2006\/09\/sixteenyearold_.html\">requests a photo of him<\/a>, there&#8217;s something not quite right about the situation.<\/p>\n<p>* Like Josh Marshall, I think it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/010016.php\">too late<\/a> for Bob Woodward to redeem himself, but that doesn&#8217;t mean his next book won&#8217;t be <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2006\/09\/28\/woodward-book\/\">interesting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* Speaking of Woodward, he says 2006 has been bad in Iraq, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2006\/09\/28\/60minutes\/main2047607.shtml\">2007 will be worse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* I feel entirely comfortable saying that Katherine Harris has had the worst campaign in the nation this year, but New York&#8217;s Jeanne Pirro, who was running for the Senate against Hillary Clinton, but is now running for state Attorney General, is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpmmuckraker.com\/archives\/001617.php\">a close second<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* The war in Iraq, on top of its cost in human life, now costs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/world\/middleeast\/articles\/2006\/09\/28\/cost_of_iraq_war_nearly_2b_a_week\/\">$2 billion a week<\/a>. Wow.<\/p>\n<p>* Fred Barnes thinks George Allen is still a <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB115940909715376271.html?mod=opinion&#038;ojcontent=otep\">viable presidential candidate<\/a> for 2008. That sounds more than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/blog\/theplank?pid=41962\">a little silly<\/a> at this point.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n* Is the Bush-McCain <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discourse.net\/archives\/2006\/09\/how_low_can_we_go_pretty_low.html\">Torture Bill<\/a> <i>worse<\/i> than the Alien and Sedition Act? <a href=\"http:\/\/natseclaw.typepad.com\/natseclaw\/2006\/09\/is_the_analogy_.html\">Maybe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* OpinionJournal.com editor James Taranto is <i>still<\/i> trying to attack Clinton&#8217;s pre-9\/11 counter-terrorism efforts. And <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/items\/200609280001?src=newsbox-atrios.blogspot.com\">he&#8217;s still wrong<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* Lieberman&#8217;s not sure he can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mydd.com\/story\/2006\/9\/28\/162743\/715\">forgive Democrats<\/a> who have endorsed Lamont? To me, the far bigger question is whether Dems who have endorsed Lamont can forgive Lieberman.<\/p>\n<p>* If you have time, Atrios has <a href=\"http:\/\/atrios.blogspot.com\/\">floor statements<\/a> from several key Dem senators, including Feingold, Kerry, Clinton, and Obama.
