As TNR’s Isaac Chotiner noted<\/a>, embattled Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) apparently believes the administration has a [tag]secret plan[\/tag]<\/a> that the rest of us haven’t heard about.<\/p>\n Sen. [tag]Conrad Burns[\/tag] said at a debate Tuesday night that President Bush does have a plan for winning the war in Iraq, but he isn’t about to share it with the world.<\/p>\n “He says our president don’t have a plan. I think he’s got one. He’s not going to tell everyone in the world.”<\/p>\n Many in the crowd, which was dominated by Tester supporters, openly laughed at Burns’ claim that Bush has a plan. […]<\/p>\n Tester said he is not for “telling our opponents what we’re going to do. The fact is, we don’t know what we’re going to do.”<\/p>\n Replied Burns: “We’re not going to tell you what our plan is, Jon, because you’re just going to go out and blow it.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n There’s a good reason the audience “openly laughed” at Burns’ claim. After all, if the administration really did have a plan, beyond the current “stay the course” tack, doesn’t Burns believe we would have seen it by now?<\/p>\n Oddly enough, the last president with a “secret plan” for a war was Nixon during Vietnam.
