Stickings<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s been wishy-washy on abortion in the past, back in his media-friendly &#8220;maverick&#8221; days, but now that he&#8217;s running for president he&#8217;s turning into the social conservative he needs to be to have any hope of making it through the GOP primaries.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, Sen. John McCain told ABC&#8217;s George Stephanolpoulos this morning that he would support the overturning of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> by the Supreme Court. His argument is federalism, or states&#8217; rights, not pro-life absolutism, but his position is nonetheless the pro-life one. And that means taking rights away from women, or at least allowing the states to do so. That&#8217;s what the debate over <em>Roe<\/em> comes down to.
