Yesterday we learned that Bush’s Thanksgiving turkey in Iraq was just a photo-op prop<\/a>, and today we learn that even Bush’s conversations with real people are carefully-crafted political events.<\/p>\n

The Detroit News reported<\/a> this week on the president’s recent visit to Michigan to tout his administration’s successful economic policies (don’t ask me; I can’t think of any either).<\/p>\n

At an event at Dynamic Metal Treating Inc., Bush shared the stage with the owners of two small auto supply companies and four workers for what was billed as a “conversation.”<\/p>\n

But the Detroit News (via CounterSpin<\/a>) explained that it was anything but an impromptu dialog between the president and six regular Americans.<\/p>\n

“The six Metro Detroiters involved in the conversation rehearsed for hours Sunday,” the newspaper explained. “At times, Bush prompted them to mention prearranged topics, reminding one worker that he’d been able to refinance his home at low interest rates and another that he’d saved $2,700 through recent tax cuts.”<\/p>\n
