65% disapproval rating

Another new low for the [tag]president[/tag].

President Bush’s approval rating has slumped to 31% in a new USA TODAY/[tag]Gallup[/tag] [tag]Poll[/tag], the lowest of his presidency and a warning sign for Republicans in the November elections.

The survey of 1,013 adults, taken Friday through Sunday, shows Bush’s standing down by 3 percentage points in a single week. His disapproval rating also reached a record: 65%.

Tracey Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, told USA Today this is “a challenging political environment.” What an interesting way to put it.

It appears that [tag]Bush[/tag] has fallen about as low as he can go among Dems and Independents, but this poll showed fairly substantial erosion in support from the right.

Bush’s fall is being fueled by erosion among support from conservatives and Republicans. In the poll, 52% of conservatives and 68% of Republicans approved of the job he is doing. Both are record lows among those groups. […]

“You hear people say he has a hard core that will never desert him, and that has been the case for most of the administration,” says Charles Franklin, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin who studies presidential approval ratings. “But for the last few months, we started to see that hard core seriously erode in support.”

I guess the public hasn’t been impressed by the staff “shake-up.”

The problem is Boy George II and his brain Karl has lined up a series of domestic issues that nicely split his base, starting with Immigration, and including tax extensions further expanding the debt, emasculating FEMA and FDA, putting extremist judges on the courts, expanding executive power, and stem-cell research.

And the sad thing is, Republicanite politicans are actually vying to succeed him as the standard bearer for his policies.

  • Schmitt sure does have a way with understatment….challenging? Oy.

The sad thing is that even though his disapprovals are so high – he still governs like he has 65% approvals. The self delusion/positive thinking are stounding……

  • The last Bush/Cheney bumper sticker that I used to see at my job parking lot was removed this weekend.

    w00t!

My thought exactly. I was like, “waitasecamundo. What about all these people who keep writing, Well, he’s now lost all he can lose?”

Now what’s up with all the pouting and the belly-aching on the Sunday Discussion Group thread yesterday?!? Let’s take advantage!

I guess the public hasn’t been impressed by the staff “shake-up.”

    Heh.

He should shake-up the staff some more.

I would imagine that the staff is getting ready to grab this man by the scruff of his neck—and shake HIM!

So—anyone want to place bets on when Kid George will—while continuing to ignore the incineration of his tenure as President—break below “the magic three-oh?” Personally, I’m guessing right around Memorial Day, when everyone takes a wee bit of time to recognize those who’ve been lost in Iraq…and a good many will finally get a little, first-time “light-bulb” that says: This has all been for nothing….”

  • Also right around Memorial Day the price of gas will have been over $3.00/gallon for quite a while. Gas prices this high are poison for a president.

  • “Gas prices this high are poison for a president.” – Pug

When you consider that the money is going to line the pockets of big oil executives, fund our leftist opponents in this hemisphere, or to pay for terrorist attacks on us and our interests, poison is a mild term.

  • Prepare for the October surprise and the inventor of the Diebold machine to get a Medal of Freedom.

when is the hole in the medicare coverage supposed to hit? I’m guessing there will be a convergence then, if it doesn’t happen sooner.

  • At this point the only thing Bush can do is to go against his base to win back the support of moderates. Does Bush have the guts to push for an increase in the minimum wage (for example)? More likely, the old expression “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” will be the mantra of his destruction.
