Libby guilty on four of five counts

Just announced…

Count One — Obstruction of Justice — Libby found guilty

Count Two — False statements to the FBI (re: discussion with Tim Russert) — Libby found guilty

Count Three — False statements to the FBI (re: discussion with Matt Cooper) — not guilty

Count Four — Perjury — Libby found guilty

Count Five — Perjury — Libby found guilty

CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin said that if the verdict is upheld, Libby is “certain to go to prison.”

Update soon.

Yay.

Now how long will it take Cheney to fall?

  • Is that the sound of a canary I hear?

Why, no! It’s Scooter Libby singing like a birdie. What a sweet sound it is.

  • is that a presidential pardon i smell?

[sniff] I think it’s a Medal of Honor. “Scooter” is a loyal soldier in the War Against Terra you know.

  • I’m with Curmudgeon. Squeeze the guy before Bush signs a get out of jail free card. Buy him a box of soap on a rope for his prison showers and wait until he starts to sob. He should have some pretty interesting stories to tell.

Bush can’t pardon him yet. The last thing Bush needs at the moment is another sh*tstorm from him pardoning an obviously guilty man. W will have to wait until this blows over in another Friedman or two. Plenty of time for Scooter to think about saving his own butt, literally.

  • No pardon till Chimpy leaves office, if then. (This assumes he leaves under his own power.)

Remember, the Wilson civil suit is in the wings. A pardoned Scooter is a Scooter who cannot take the 5th, and who can be compelled to testify about a whole raft of explosive stuff. The bottom line is that a pardon is hardly a done deal.

  • That mysterious squishy sound we just heard, was Cheney filling his Depends. Not having a good week, are ya dick?

  • I’m waiting for Libby’s public pronouncement to the effect, “I know in my heart that I’ve done nothing wrong.” Just like statements made by Lay, Skilling, DeLay, Ebbers, Cunningham and all the other reichwing crooks this nation has to suffer with.

    Merry, Merry Fitzmas!

Good luck, “Scooter”, and don’t drop the soap!!!

  • Libby Libby Libby going to Jail Jail Jail

My apologies to the Libby’s label jingle!

  • Cheney was clearly complicit in Libby’s false statements to teh FBI (count 2).

Also, Bush knew that Libby was taking the fall for Rove (see Cheney’s crossed outmemo), though he may not have known the specifics of the plan, i.e. that Cheney and Libby were going to lie to the FBI about the outing.

  • I’m pleasantly surprised by the verdict, but am wondering how long it will take for Patrick Fitzgerald to be “asked to resign” so he can be replaced by yet another complaisant political hack.

  • Whoop-de-doo. So the stooge pigeon takes the fall. We all know Cheney and possibly Rove issued the directive to out Plame. Cheney is guilty. There is no justice until that goddamn bastard, the enemy of our democracy, is found guilty of treason. After all, it is treason we are talking about here, the revealing of an uncercover agent’s identity. With Cheney gone, then we are free to impeach the other enemy of the United States, Cheney’s puppet Bu$h.

  • Michelle, Ann. Rush, start up the spin and whine machine! We’ve got a lot of “water to carry” ’cause the Walter Reed stuff, an’ the attorney firin’ stuff, and all that other inconvenient stuff ain’t goin’ away neither.

  • *tin foil hat*

it is likely that BushCo saw this coming, and knows it bodes ill for Cheney in a way that could make Dick an albatross around the neck of Bush’s last two years.

so just this week, Cheney’s health problems start cropping up again, just in time to provide a face-saving way out: “While I hate to see such a dedicated and patriotic public servent leave this administration, his health is just too important, and his ability to spend time with his family, including his new grandchild, invaluable. And so I wish Dick and his family the best, and thank him once again for all he has done for me and for this great nation.”

    Hmmm. . .

  • For all my Republican friends out there, I don’t think it’s a happy thing (usually) when someone has to go to prison, and I’m sure this Scooter Libby guy is probably a nice guy and should have found some way to keep himself out of this mess.

But the stuff this administration does has to end somewhere, and if it’s by criminal prosecutions, so be it. The only thing is that Libby’s shouldn’t be the only one.
