The John Roberts conspiracy

Once in a great while, the right surprises me.

On the July 30 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Savage reacted to news that Chief Justice John Roberts had suffered a seizure that day by raising the possibility that “his health was in some way tampered with by the Democrats.” Savage said, “Something’s wrong with this picture,” after noting that Roberts’ seizure occurred just three days after Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) said he would seek in general to reject any future Supreme Court nomination made by President Bush. Schumer told the American Constitution Society (ACS) in a July 27 speech: “I will recommend to my colleagues that we should not confirm any Bush nominee to the Supreme Court except in extraordinary circumstances.” Schumer said that, since the confirmation of Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, the court had come to represent “what a diminishing clique of conservative ideologues wish for.”

Savage asked, “Am I to believe there’s no connection between Charles Schumer on Friday saying he would never appoint, or never, excuse me, approve another Bush appointment to the court, to any court? And then the chief justice suffers a so-called seizure two days later? You’re telling me there’s no possibility of a conspiracy by the Democrats to have caused this seizure in some manner?” He added: “Tell me it’s not possible, and I’ll tell you you’re a liar.”

Now, one could point out that Schumer did not, in fact, say that “he would never … approve another Bush appointment to the court, to any court,” and that accusations of attempted murder probably shouldn’t be tossed around so casually, but what’s the point?

Some folks are just not well.

Harry Reid with a blowgun.

  • Olbermann already calls Rush Limbaugh “Comedian Rush Limbaugh.”

I guess we’ll have to add the same prefix to Savage now.

Either that or just have him 5150’d and be done with it.

  • The world needs more Dan Savage, less Mike Savage. Now.

So brave of Mike. The evil DemoNcRats can get at a SC Justice but he’s not afraid they’ll come after him for exposing the truthiness! Thank goodness the electronic mice that live under Mikey’s bed and a steady course of coffee enemas make him immune to their nefarious powers!

The obvious answer that a wingnut like him would understand is that it was in revenge for what the GOP operatives did to Sen. Tim Johnson.

Pathetic, but I bet if asked to comment Roberts will not be amused.

  • Now, one could point out that Schumer did not, in fact, say that “he would never … approve another Bush appointment to the court, to any court,” and

The Schumer statement is connected to President Bush’s nominating assholes to the courts over and over again, and the Roberts seizure is just a coincidence. Savage’s tinfoil-wearing brain had the luck of being born in a world where Bush is nominating people Democrats would be highly opposed to (and therefore make statements against) and where people have seizures (yes, sometimes even judges).

  • I wonder how Michael Savage explains Roberts’s “unexplained” seizure back in 1993? The Democratic conspiracy has been after Roberts for a long time, I guess.

  • These hysterical right-wing accusations have got to be challenged and stopped. It may be great for marketing. It might help some wacko’s book sales, but this kind of irresponsible behavior shouldn’t be supported by broadcasters. These stations need to be hurt in their pocketbooks by intensive boycotts of their advertisers. Letters should be sent protesting this nonsense, assuring the station that they’ve lost a listener. It looks like there is some impact using this procedure on slanderers such as O’Reilly.

If there is another mechanism, I’d like to know about it. The nonsense is getting worse. For example, one can only imagine what’s going to happen to the “Wall Street Journal” now that Rupert’s in control.

  • It wasn’t Harry Reid at all. Cheney was jabbing his Roberts voodoo doll with a long needle to remind Roberts who he really works for.

  • Now, now, let’s be reasonable. It’s just what Mr. Savage would do if the situation were reversed, so of course he thinks it’s plausible.

  • It’s projection. Mr. Savage is remembering Coultergeist’s wish that someone would put arsenic in Justice Stevens’ oatmeal or some such “hilarious joke” that she made concerning the pesky continuing presence of the more liberal justices on the SCOTUS. It is Savage and his ilk who appeal to those who dream of imposing their ideology on the Republic via coup – bloodless or – even better – bloody. He doesn’t give a rat’s backside about what really happens. He just likes to whip up the wingers who think he is worth a listen.

  • Wow, talk about make your own reality!! It’s like a big game of Clue started in the brains of fascist twisted Rethugs . As long as this is out there I want to play along!!

It was the ghost of FDR with a candlestick in the study. Am I right? Or was it the ghost of Justice Douglas with the wrench in the kitchen?

  • Don’t look now, Michael, but there are terrorists under your bed and liberals boring through the walls. Feminists read your mail, transvestites have infiltrated the Church nursery and stem cells — you don’t even want to know about the stem cells! (Boo!)

  • They also caused Mike Savage’s baldness and made him write to Allen Ginsburg about his ‘thought of inserting my camera’s lens in your A-hole to photograph the walls of your rectum’, too!

  • Savage better be careful or he might end up in one of those FEMA/Halliburton/Walmart detention camps in a cell next to Paul Wellstone or a bunch of 9-11 “truthers”.

  • Savage is out of his mind and should be ignored.
If he had no listeners he’d be gone.

  • 5150—“Involuntary Psychiatric Hold.” It means to throw someone’s worthless hide into a soundproof, padded cell against their will.

Say—an “extraordinary rendition of Michael Savage.” That sounds pretty good to me….

  • Them Dems (shaking her head in wonder)… The power of their ill-wishing penetrated the walls of Roberts’ own house and brought him to his knees, writhing.

Just a reminder to the right-nuts: if wishes were horses, Shrub would never again climb his bike, nor would Deadeye ever go hunting… And then we’d come after the smaller fry — like *you*. Booo! Be afraid, be very afraid…

  • My niece, not a Republican, listens to Savage for laughs. I was at first mad at her and then agreed to listen to 5 minutes of his show. He rhapsodized about a quiet but tough “guy from the old neigborhood” with “log-like hands” “like catcher’s mitts” who tracked down a rude driver and beat him up. Savage is nuts but I’m not sure all his listeners take him seriously. Those who do likely also are nuts.

  • Robert’s seizure was highly symbolic and symptomatic of the sickness at the heart of the court of the Crimson King, to be sure. But wasn’t it a convergence of the pentagram of forces subtended by

    a a a

    Ahh

    HHH
    a

    Won’t do that again.

  • What’s really shitty is that “Michael Savage” is a created character whose creator claims not to believe anything “Michael Savage” says, but does it because they pay him.

  • What’s really shitty is that “Michael Savage” is a created character whose creator claims not to believe anything “Michael Savage” says, but does it because they pay him.

Wait, you mean one of those fuckers has finally admitted he’s a big whore? Fine, let’s see if we can outbid his current John.

No … this is just another sign of the chicken-shittedness of the Right. “Waaah! Don’t yell at me, I’m just doing my job.”

  • The Bimbaugh-Coultergeist-Savage triad is circling in anticipation of a more perfect cluster f**k, which will instantly morph the world into the totalitarian utopia they wish on all of us. The Democrats can’t impeach a criminal, but they can get at a fascist SC justice? Really? Lush isn’t the only one on crack, er, I mean oxycontin. Savage is hitting the peyote too hard, or else his ratings are falling.
