‘I’m just glad I’m not out there running’

The president sat down with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto last night for a variety of softball sycophantic compelling questions about the political landscape, but I was struck by Bush’s take on the 2008 presidential race. He wouldn’t comment on candidates or predictions, of course, but he spoke more generally about the landscape.

CAVUTO: But a lot of that has to do with, depending on the poll, fatigue over the candidates, Democrat and Republican. Do you think we have started this race way too early?

BUSH: Look, I started in June of 1999, it was when my first trip out of Texas. I went to Iowa and New Hampshire. On the other hand, I had — during our legislative session there, you know, we had people come down, and a lot of policy people, and some financial people all setting the ground work for a run.

It is hard for me to tell whether it is too early or not. I don’t know. I’m just glad I’m not out there running.

Given the president’s record and national support, I’m not surprised he’s glad not to be out there.

Bush also took a moment to brag about what an above-board campaigner he is.

CAVUTO: But they are all running against you, and you are not up for election.

BUSH: Are you talking about the Democrats?

CAVUTO: In this case.

BUSH: Well, I’m an easy target, yes. (LAUGHTER) But you can’t win an election if the vision is, I’m against somebody. It is very important for candidates from both political parties to say what they are for.

Does the president even remember his 2004 campaign? The vast majority of his stump speech was a direct attack on John Kerry, and 70% of his TV ads were negative attacks on Kerry/Edwards.

As for the president being an “easy” political target, I guess it’s encouraging that he’s vaguely aware of his unpopularity.

I, too, am glad that he’s not out there running. I will be ecstatic if he & Dick peacefully relinquish the office of the presidency on January 20, 2009 –even if it is to Rudolf McRompson. I’m going to celebrate like it’s 1999!

Speaking of which, I’m not too big on political calculation, but I had a thought this morning. I’m willing to bet that if Ron Paul does not win the Republican nomination, that Giuliani is on the ticket, either 1 or 2. He has to. The Imperialists need the 9/11 guy to stay on the psychological attack against the American People. Obviously, Rudolf is the best 9/11 evangelist.

  • Gee, I’d like to see the Regal Moron running again–this time, running for his life as Fitz pursues him with an indictment for treason.

  • I would like to see Bush run again so that he can take the political pounding he deserves. He escapes this way.

  • Does the president even remember his 2004 campaign?

Who knows. The man doesn’t think or talk rationally. He just needs to be stopped.

  • JKap has reminded me of my recurring nightmare: “If he and Dick peacefully relinquish the office of the presidency…”

But the abuses continue as if there is no tomorrow. Do they know something we don’t? I’m sure they don’t believe America can survive without them. Could there be a plan in the works to postpone the elections, possibly because of a terrorist attack? Especially if it looks like America’s enemies (Democrats) are going to win?

(Excuse me as I adjust my tinfoil hat.)

That Fox interview is classic Bush – do one thing and call it something else: Compassionate Conservatism, Clear Skies, running a “positive campaign” etc.

I think of what they’re doing as injecting the virus of authoritarianism into every vein ot the public sector. The idea, I think, is to so rampantly infect the government that the disease overcomes the organism’s ability to fight back. If they haven’t reached that point, they’re getting close.

  • “Does the president even remember his 2004 campaign?”

And then there’s the whole thing about McCain being a Manchurian candidate with a black baby back in 2000…

Ah yes, the “Clear Skies”… Always thought it should have been “No Tree Left Behind”. Of course the Healthy Forest one could also be called NTLB

  • He doesn’t need to run anymore. He’ll just activate the executive order that makes him decider for life.
