Updated head count on FMA

Yesterday I noted that Josh Chafetz at Oxblog has a running tally on Senate support for the Federal Marriage Amendment based on specific statements made by lawmakers. Remember, with a two-thirds threshold for constitutional amendments, FMA backers will need 67 votes to succeed in the Senate, and conversely, opponents will need 33 votes to block it. At this point, it isn’t even close.

Chafetz now has the positions of 81 members and 42 senators are on record opposing the FMA. Even if a couple of them change their mind later on, there’s a comfortable buffer between 42 and 33.

This thing isn’t going anywhere.
