Brave New Films successfully pushes back against Michael Savage

This is a very pleasant surprise. My friends at Brave New Films recently launched a campaign to target sponsors of right-wing shock-jock Michael Savage’s nationally syndicated radio show. If you’re not familiar with Savage, imagine what Rush Limbaugh would sound like with twice as much hate and half the sense of humor. Media Matters has some of this clown’s recent notable on-air comments.

Those of us on the left have seen these kind of efforts to implore to advertisers before, but in most instances, the campaigns come up short and fizzle out. This one, thankfully, produced results. Sam Stein reports:

At least four major firms have pulled advertising from Michael Savage’s nationally syndicated radio show following a campaign highlighting his inflammatory rhetoric. One other company, Geico insurance, is expected to follow suit.

The campaign, launched recently by Brave New Films, generated thousands of calls urging advertisers on the Savage Nation show to sever financial ties to the widely popular (and frequently offensive) talk host. In less than a week, four agreed to pull their ads from the show, including Union Bank of California (whose representative says they were advertisers on the Savage show by mistake and were glad to be taken off), Intuit, Chattem, ITT Technical Institute.

“We are thrilled at the amazing response of the true patriots all over the blogosphere who responded to our NOSAVAGE campaign,” Robert Greenwald, head of the film company, said in a statement. “People have called and emailed and the responsible sponsors have responded by pulling their ads and asking that their ads not be on this racist and hateful show.”

I suspect, in most instances, these major corporate advertisers had no idea what they were subsidizing. A company wants to reach a large audience, they see a show with big ratings, so they buy ads. This campaign helped show some of these advertisers exactly what they were paying for, and to their credit, the companies severed their ties. Kudos all around.

Of course, not all of Savage’s advertisers are distancing themselves from his on-air bile.

The USO, a non-profit that does work for U.S. armed forces, wrote Brave New Films complaining about being targeted and even hinting at a lawsuit. The organization’s lawyer Tony Bisceglie says it does not pay for the USO public service announcements that air on Savage’s show.

“As a tax exempt not-for-profit organization, regulated by the Attorney General’s Office of the state of California and the Internal Revenue Service, your organization may not engage in making false statements to solicit public support,” Bisceglie wrote to Brave New Films. “Therefore, please take the necessary steps to remove USO from your website entirely to avoid further action on our part.”

Bisceglie denied that the USO is considering legal action. But John Hanson, a spokesman for the USO, said the organization could ask for its PSAs to be taken off of Savage’s program, and wouldn’t. “Because then who is next?” he asked. “We provide no revenue for Michael Savage. We may improve his image. But we provide no revenue for him.”

The reasoning was not enough to impress officials at Brave New Films who called it a lost opportunity for the USO.

“Considering the USO’s role in the world,” said Leighton Woodhouse, a spokesperson for Brave New Films, “we would have expected them to be the first to distance themselves from someone who is deliberately fanning the flames of hatred between Muslims and non-Muslims; we were sorely disappointed.”

If you haven’t seen it, here’s Brave New Film’s video on Savage. One hopes USO officials might want to take a look. (If you’re planning to watch it, you may want to keep some pepto handy.)

Nice work, Brave New Films.

Savage, playing the (choose 1): a) Anti-Semite, b) Nazi, c) Librul censorship cards in 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-…

  • I’ve never understood Savage’s appeal.

The man is vulgar and offensive to the point of being meaningless. Look at those Media Matters quotes…not only are they wrong, they don’t make a lick of sense. Gay facscists? Huh? I guess you could understand the man as dadist anti-politics, making mockery of our discourse by flinging poo all over it…and that’d work if not for the fact that his audience takes him very, very seriously. So do his detractors, to this end.

Then again, if he REALLY had the postmodern engine purring, he’d play both sides for complete fools. So maybe he’s just really really good at his craft.

  • I love Savage, he speaks the truth that is why it is too loud/scary to all the libs. Whoever wants to take out their adds will loose my business and all savage listeners.

  • This is how we take them down. All you need to do is play their words to a wide audience, and give those people a clear path to complain to the advertisers. The rest will take care of itself, those advertisers want your money and they know they won’t get it if they’re caught sponsoring hatred.

Please support the firms who pulled their ads if you can, and tell them why.

I’m going to call the USO and tell them to not bother asking me for any money.

  • I suspect, in most instances, these major corporate advertisers had no idea what they were subsidizing. A company wants to reach a large audience, they see a show with big ratings, so they buy ads.

Probably they just pay an advertising agency to make the deals, and don’t even know what shows they’re being advertised on.

  • Hey Sam, where do you shop? I’ll cut out the middle man, and begin boycotting your list of firms. -Kevo

  • Perhaps we might take Swan’s comment one step further, and start hammering away at a few of the ad agencies. Savage can’t fund his program if the “middle-men” cut him off at the knees.

  • Doug and Sam, thanks for the brilliant comments. Nice to know that some people can still type with their knuckles.

  • Oh, and Doug, for the record, the preferred grammatical use there is “hanged,” no doubt if your boy Savage IS elected president this would become all the more well known, as he seems to have a disturbing tendency to suggest it for most of his enemies (see posted link of quotations in the original post)

  • FWIW, the local Montgomery, AL radio station that carried Savage dropped him recently to be replaced by…CNN simulcast (which I think is Nancy Grace at that hour). No boycott here, just bad ratings.

  • I caught Savage a week or so ago on the radio. I hadn’t heard him in a while so I thought it would be fun to listen of a little while and he certainly didn’t disappoint. It was a respectful, uplifting discussion about which presidential candidates have the “hottest first ladies.” He kept going on and on about McCain’s wife and then, for about 10 minutes, couldn’t stop saying “who would be Hillary’s first lady?” Then he went on and on explaining that he wasn’t referring to Bill but to Hillary’s girlfriend(s). So on top of being a secret lesbian Hillary is also a slut! He was also particularly nasty about Huckabee’s wife. Because this is what really matters in a presidential election.

Seriously, it was like listening to the rantings of an pathetic, ignorant 14-year old boy who has no friends and has no understanding of how to make friends. You know, the kind of guy who makes everyone laugh uncomfortably and back away slowly? If he wasn’t such an asshole I’d almost feel sorry for him.

Savage is just a stupid, insecure jerk , plain and simple.

  • Yeah, but the underlying tragedy of America is that these guys couldn’t survive without the ardent support of tens of millions of Americans. And remember, many of these right wing crazies are just putting on a show for the real crazies, the people who listen to them and cheer them on.

It’s a pretty sick country when you think after eight years of Bush, it will be pretty damn hard for any Democrat to defeat McCain.

  • The USO is cool for doing what they do for the troops, but obviously, they don’t care about everybody- like people who aren’t white. Otherwise they wouldn’t put their ad on Michael Savage’s trash.

They’re not as caring as they seem at first. They should grow up.

  • It’s a riot reading “liberals”, those who proclaim to love and defend free speech, try to stop free speech by using illegal and unethical means, and do so with the pro-Islamist group CAIR. Do you realize how ridiculous the “liberal” clowns are? Do you just not get it?

Sam, loosing your (and Dougie’s) business probably won’t be much of a loss.

It’s always those who are hurt the most that buy into all the bullshit and vote against themselves. All those middle class people who wanted to have a beer with Bush: ’nuff said.

Don’t worry about Savage’s listeners…I am sure that all seven of them will be just fine.

  • All of you liberal dunces need to be tried for treason and hung. — Doug, @9

Ummm… Doug… Some of us (liberal dunces) are *female*; no amount of Viagra or penis enhancements will ever make us “hung” (adding 3 inches to zero is still only 3 inches).

As a non-native speaker of English, I, too, was proud of having mastered the irregular past participle of “hang”. And dismayed that “hang” had two different past participles, *depending on the situation*… You might want to look into that “other option”

  • I love how right-wing ignoramuses are the first to cry “censorship!” when what they’re really upset about is how a free market economy works.

The only thing that bugs me is that Michael Savage and others like him already have overly developed persecution complexes– this isn’t going to help. Poor, poor Mike. What is he going to do with himself if the money dries up?

  • I love how right-wing ignoramuses are the first to cry “censorship!” when what they’re really upset about is how a free market economy works.

I love how left-wing ignoramuses try to explain something they really don’t understand, like the free market. Face it, “liberals” can’t win with actual debate; all they can do is destroy. Look at “Air (Un)America”; no ratings, no following, no stations except for those George Soros can buy.

See, what’s funny is how leftist “liberal” losers try to act so tough. They know how to act thuggish against other Americans (kind of like how the Sicilian Black Hand would only terrorize other Sicilians), but defecate all over themselves actually standing up for American principles. What hypocrites.

    MsJoanne said:

Hate to burst your bubble, but that number is about 7 MILLION listeners (and more than likely millions more. Savage is number 3 nationally among ALL radio talk-show hosts. Actually, I think 7 listeners is about seven times the number of listeners of “Air (Un)America)”.

  • The world needs less Mike Savage and more Dan Savage.

And remember, the more you feed the trolls the longer they’ll hung around.

  • I agree with MsJoanne, that at times it is fun to see some of the Republican / Conservative defenders use their room temperature IQ’s to educate us about how smart they are.

As SteveIL mentioned, 7 million + readers, …. gives us a pretty good idea of how many dumb people there really are, considering they keep on voting against their own interests. Like the lemmings going over the cliff – with a smile, no less.

It is pretty sad though that, given we’re in the 21st century and there are still this many backward people living here in America. No use to debate people who don’t comprehend what’s actually going on. Worth a chuckle indeed.

  • In the “liberal” world of the so-called “reality-based” community, getting a talk show host off the air requires campaigns to corporate sponsors. In the real world, getting a talk show host off the air requires the simple act of changing radio stations to something else. And if people want to listen to Michael Savage, or anyone else for that matter, so what? I never listened to Howard Stern’s show because I believe it was vile, but that doesn’t give me any kind of right to push him off the air. That’s kind of a violation of the 1st Amendment (which shouldn’t be done by conservatives either, by the way), know what I mean? Besides, who the hell are you people to tell other Americans who to listen to on the radio?

  • If you don’t like him don’t listen to him. Everyone in America is entitled to free speech but not listening ears. I personally hate hearing bush, obama and mitt selling us a load of crap everyday about how these empty suits are going to fix America. I found my solution in not having cable.

  • I have contacted all of Michael Savage’s targeted sponsors and encouraged them to support Mr. Savage’s right to free speech. I may not agree with what he says, but the nature of a democracy is to let him have his say. At that point you can choose not to listen.

Should we boycott Air America because we don’t agree with it? No one is forcing any one to listen to Savage. I choose not to listen to Howard Stern, but again, I defend his right to speak.

  • tAiO, I’m willing to bet you shouldn’t be using our troll and “hung” in the same sentence.

and can we get a better class of trolls? maybe ones that know that “censorship” as a legal concept applies only to government actions (which no one here is calling for) and not to uses of consumer power in the marketplace like boycotts?

  • Tsk and for shame zeitgeist! Are you suggesting the All Mighty Free Market should decide who stays on the air and who doesn’t? Are you saying basic American Capitalist principles should be applied to the likes of Mike Savage?

I am shocked! I say shocked, that you don’t know the AMFM is only meant to protect us from the perils of affordable health care!

As for the trolls, I don’t know why CB consistently attracts the feeblest of the lot. I prefer to think they are so overawed by the work Steve B does they can only bleat out a few stock phrases before they collapse beneath the weight of facts and careful analysis.

  • What’s happening to Michael Weiner/Savage (Yes, Weiner’s his real surname) is a reminder to right wing-nuts that what goes around, comes around. Right-wingers have been beating the drums for pressuring advertisers to stop advertising on left-of-center radio and television programs since well before most Savage fans got kitted out with their first pair of diapers at the hospital by an obstetrics nurse. Some right wing-nuts are STILL beating the drums for pressuring advertisers to stop advertising on left-of-center radio and television programs.

As for your anguish that advertisers would drop their advertising on the Weiner Nation, all I can say is that I feel your pain–and relish it.

    Have a nice day!

Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah!

  • If white people in general were allowed to openly talk about race and sexual politics the same way women and people of color do now there would be no reason for a michael savage. More power to ms.

  • This guy can change his name to Savage or even Conan the Barbarian, but he’s still just a weenie.

  • You want to really have some fun? Call his show while it’s on, tell his call screeners whatever you think they want to hear to get on the air (usually something about how much you adore the the host), then when you’re on the air, refer to Mr. Weiner by his real last name.

    It drives him crazy.

  • And to ghingis can’t, poor lil white boy can’t talk ugly about women and minorities? Who’s stopping you exactly? I think you’re just a weenie like Mikey.

  • The problem is simple, and savage has the right idea. He may be inarticluate about it, in that he certainly is frothly. But the problem is radical islam. A lot of gutless Euro-trash who have never lifted any hands to stop the many European Genocides, Like to come on here bash America. And for what? Saving earthquake victums around the world, Help Tsunami victums. Funding the UN programs.and on and on.

Well the truth is America has done more for the World than any other country. This radio host is yelling, and sounds out of it, but he’s accurate on where he puts up his guard.

Lets face it when France has 50 cars a day on average being burned down by “disinfranchised” muslim teenage thugs. Remember when the muslims were burned down 12,000 cars is a big orgy about scarfs?

The problem is Muslims don’t accept they have a problem. There is a problem within Islam….its simple they are afraid to speak out against the terrorists. You know they feel this way but they are not saying it. ” Death to Osama Bi Laden” Come on how about a little orgainized chanting of that.

  • I heard Michael Weiner for just a couple of minutes two nights ago, and in that short time span he spit out a couple of whoppers:

First, he claimed that Vicki Weaver, wife of Randy Weaver, was killed “while Hillary Clinton was running the country.” The siege at Ruby Ridge happened in August, 1992, when George Herbert Walker Bush was President.

Then, he referred to Jose Padilla as “the shoe bomber”. Of course, to Weiner I suppose all Muslims are alike.

An email to Weiner’s producer has so far been unanswered.

  • Michael “Savage”?

    HAHAHAHA

His REAL name – the one he was given upon hatching – is MICHAEL WEINER. Thus the REAL name of his listenership is “THE WEINIE NATION”…

PS… boycott “Rock Star” energy drink. It’s snake oil huckstered by Weinie Jr., his son.

  • I once heard him explaining how that Oliver North had testified during the Iran/Contra trial that his family was being targeted by Osama bin Laden. Then he used this info for another attack on “liberals.” For a guy with such a high opinion of himself, this was quite a blunder. It was Abu Nidal that North was complaining about. Savage isn’t very well informed at all.

  • “That’s kind of a violation of the 1st Amendment (which shouldn’t be done by conservatives either, by the way), know what I mean? Besides, who the hell are you people to tell other Americans who to listen to on the radio?”

The first amendment says that Congress shall make no law infringing on one’s freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, or the freedom to petition one’s government.

No one has mentioned a law blocking Weiner from doing anything. Nor are we suggesting that Congress keep him from going to whatever church he likes, assembling with those that he likes or petitioning the government.

What we are doing is going to his advertisers and saying, “If you do business with Savage, it makes us less likely to do business with you.” That’s it. It’s no different than the astroturf groups on the radical right do everytime a titty shows up on television. Something like 98 percent of all the letters of complaint written to the FCC come from one group.

Furthermore, no one is suggesting that YOU be unable to listen to whatever hate-speech you like on television or radio. We’re simply expressing our disgust with our wallets. Short-wave radio is filled with lunatics that make Weiner seem fairly tame. No one is trying to shut them down. They have no advertisers (literally), so there’s no point in trying this sort of campaign.

I’m all for the KKK being able to march down the street and say their thing. I’m all for the Black Panthers to march down the next street and say their thing.

I’m not sure why this is confusing to a “conservative” like “yourself.”

  • You folks ever hear of the 1st Amendment? Our founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves. While I hardly agree with everything any one person has to say, especially Michael Savage, he has the right to say whatever he wants – it is the primary liberty of this country.

How is Michael Savage targeting Muslim’s differnet than you people targeting Michael Savage and his sponsors? – different targets but in reality, its the same thing. It is both about hate. You may think your ideals are better, but both sides are spewing hate. I am not suggesting that “we all get along.” I am merely saying that people have the right to SAY anything they want in this country. If you don’t like what he has to say, change the station or don’t listen.

  • “But the problem is radical islam”

Okay…can we stop with this? Can republicans finally try and parse this and just…STFU and stop embarrassing themselves with this line of trash?

There are one BILLION muslims in the world. How many of them are terrorists? A few thousand? A couple of ten thousand? MAYBE?

Do you even know what “radical” islam is?

Why are “radical” Christians not a problem? Who set off the bomb in Oklahoma City? What group uses a flaming cross as their symbol? Want to add up all the attacks on US soil by Christians and all the attacks on US soil by Muslims and see who has the worst record?

Why is the guy who set off the bomb at the Atlanta Olympics and all those folks who shoot and bomb abortion clinics not considered “Christian terrorists?”

  • “if you don’t like it, turn the station.”

How come that doesn’t apply when my local radio station wants to play the uncensored version of Buckcherry’s “Crazy Bitch”?

“The problem is Muslims don’t accept they have a problem. There is a problem within Islam….its simple they are afraid to speak out against the terrorists. ”

So if they did, would it look something like this:

Yep, if only “those Muslims” spoke out…..

  • Hey Noah –

The short version of the answer to your question is that the right wing fringe base their opinions not on facts but on fear and ignorance. They are extremely unhappy with their own lives so they hate everyone who isn’t as miserable as they are. It’s so much easier to generalize and demonize a whole group then it is to examine and sift through the facts, so I guess laziness plays a big part in it, too.

Wow – miserable, stupid and lazy. Yep, that about sums it up.

But you probably knew this already…

  • @ D.N. Nation
“The man is vulgar and offensive to the point of being meaningless.”
That is his appeal. You have to target your audience…

  • How is Michael Savage targeting Muslim’s differnet than you people targeting Michael Savage and his sponsors?

I’ll tell you how it’s “differnet”: “We people” are urging Mr. Weiner’s sponsors to stop advertising on a radio show that spews hate and lies. Mr. Weiner is urging the U.S. government to commit crimes by dropping atomic bombs on random Middle-Eastern cities.

If you can’t tell the difference between the two, you have some serious problems.

  • 2Manchu:

How come that doesn’t apply when my local radio station wants to play the uncensored version of Buckcherry’s “Crazy Bitch”?

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy Sirius? 🙂

  • zeitgeist,

I seriously need to get on board with that. Omaha’s radio market is really starting to suck.

  • Look,

I hate Savage’s politcs as much as all of you, but the object of this campaign is clear: it’s an attempt to silence Savage through an economic attack.

I support Savage 100%, just as I’d support Al Franken or Stephanie Miller in the opposite situation against your fascist campaign.

The goal of this is to silence a voice you disagree with. I stand proudly with freedom of speech, ESPECIALLY the speech that I find morally & socially repugnant.

Some will argue that this isn’t censorship, as there is no attempt to actually stop Savage from speaking. This is patently false–the goal of your campaign is to silence a voice you dislike–I’ll do what I can to prevent you from succeeding, so stupid, hateful, ignorant minority opinions can still be heard across the nation.

Three cheers for Hillary, The ACLU, and Michael-frickin-Savage!

  • Omaha? We have a city in Nebraska that sounds just like that. Yes, ALL U.S. radio pretty much sucks these days. Tom Petty summed it up well in “The Last DJ.”
Sadly talk radio is the only outlet for interesting personality on radio now. Otherwise, it’s a mater of listening to a bunch of commercials before being allowed to “enjoy” some ad execs highly underused iPod. That dude only has forty songs on it.

  • Yes, Michael Weiner has a right to lie and be hateful on the radio. And yes, companies have a right to advertise on his show. They also have a right to not advertise on his show.

Just as I have a right to let companies know what it tells me about their ethics when they choose to advertise on his show. If they advertise on a show with no commitment to being truthful, that says to me I can’t trust that company to be truthful in their dealings with me, so I choose not to do business with that company.

  • “I hate Savage’s politcs as much as all of you, but the object of this campaign is clear: it’s an attempt to silence Savage through an economic attack.

I support Savage 100%, just as I’d support Al Franken or Stephanie Miller in the opposite situation against your fascist campaign.”

No, it’s an attempt to illustrate that sponsor/host alliances have economic consequences. Seriously, why is that “fascism?”

As a consumer, I am forced to make certain choices. Sometimes, it’s based on the quality of the product. Sometimes, it’s based on the ideology of the company.

    How is that “fascism?”

Jonah Goldberg wrote a retarded thesis on how “liberalism” and “fascism” were the same thing (which is sort of like saying “wet” and “dry” are the same thing) and now it’s become this huge conservative buzzword.

Are dictionaries really that hard? Shouldn’t basic, preliminary knowledge of a word (like…how it’s spelled and it’s definition) be the very minimum we require of ourselves before it’s used?

    I don’t care if you don’t like liberal politics. Just use a word that’s actually…ya know…accurate.

  • For you Savage haters, you really need to wake up and smell the coffee. CAIR is a low down scum sucking organization. Recently CAIR called the FBI on me because I have been pestering them via a contact form on their web site. CAIR tried to scare me into silence. CAIR, would like to change American politics.

  • “The short version of the answer to your question is that the right wing fringe base their opinions not on facts but on fear and ignorance. ”

Actually, if they did that, I’d be pretty impressed. If I had to guess, I’d say they base their opinions on what people like Hannity, O’Reilly, Savage, Coulter and the like TELL them to base their opinions on.

Example…France…Just say to a conservative, “Hey, I’d like to go to Paris on my vacation. What do you think?” Watch them foam at the mouth, roll their eyes and sneer.

Why? How many of them have been to France? How many of them know someone from France? How many of them could find France on a map?

They hate France NOT because of French politics (Quick…if you’re a conservative, tell me…without looking it up…what the names of the major political parties are in France!) but because Bill O’Reilly and the like TOLD them to hate France.

Which means that they are on an ideological bandwidth shared by the people who hate America because some religious leader told THEM to hate America. Seriously, go to New York and find a person from the Middle East and ask them how awful the United States is. Ask them how intolerant the United States is. There’s a neighborhood in the Bronx (I think…might be Brooklyn) that is supposed to be the most diverse place on the planet. Every language in the world can be heard there. You’ve got all sorts of folks, all sorts of colors, all sorts of religions, all sorts of ideas…all crammed into a little neighborhood and they live together without blowing up a single bus or a grocery store. They just go about their business and leave each other alone.

The politics of the United States have NOTHING to do with that neighborhood and the people’s ability to get along. Just like the opinions of France’s elected leaders have nothing to do with the appeal of visiting Paris on a vacation. Or of eating “french fries” (which were actually developed in Belgium) or reading Victor Hugo.

Oh, and just to be fair…hating france, hating the US…they’re the same as the idiots on the left who claim that 9/11 was justified because of the US imperialism around the world…as though it would be just if you executed some random guy on the street in New York on 9/11/01 because we have a troop presence in Mecca.

All three ideologies are nothing more than idiotic projection. It’s like saying 9/11 happened because of abortion.

  • “CAIR, would like to change American politics.”

So would I. That’s why I vote. Once Hillary Clinton is elected, I imagine you’d like to change American politics too. Why does that make me or you or CAIR a “scum-sucking organization?”

You’d prefer it if they were completely inert?

  • JMan, the logical result of your post is absurd: that we have some patriotic duty to buy things from people we don’t like to show how open minded we are. That we cannot choose who to buy from based on how we feel about their behavior. Those premises are just nonsense.

Moreover, you assume that the advertisers know what they are actually supporting with their money. If some, like USO, want to maintain their support, there is nothing we can do to stop them. But your argument essentially boils down to Geico having some odd right to remain ignorant about what it promotes. If Media Matters provides Geico with accurage information about Savage, and they decide that is not the right forum for their advertising, explain to me where the problem is?

Do you support freedom for Geico, or should they be forced to support Weiner?
Do you believe more information is better, or should Geico not know what its name is tied to?
Do you believe consumers should be required to spend money on things they dislike, or are consumers free to vote with their wallets?

Its pretty simple, really, and there is nothing censorious about it. It just pisses the right wing off that the free market they think they own can sometimes be used by others to smack them upside the head.

  • “I love Savage, he speaks the truth that is why it is too loud/scary to all the libs. Whoever wants to take out their adds will loose my business and all savage listeners.”

Here it is in full glory, the Modern Conservative. It can’t spell, it can’t write, it’s as dumb as a post.

Where did the conservative of years ago go, the one who was thoughtful and hard to contradict? Why have conservatives become so irredeemably, unapologetically, moronically, stupid?

  • I’ve looked through this thread. The stupid posts are conservative. The thoughtful ones are liberal.

Why has the conservative brand degenerated into the moron brand?

As JK Galbraith said: “Not all conservatives are stupid. But all stupid people are conservatives.” This fundamental truth has not changed, although the first premise is no longer necessarily correct. It now appears that “all conservatives” are stupid.

  • “Where did the conservative of years ago go, the one who was thoughtful and hard to contradict? Why have conservatives become so irredeemably, unapologetically, moronically, stupid?”

When Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act and being a conservative because code for being a bigot.

Then people like Jesse Helms started bitching about “outside agitators” and people started to identify with him. Then Raygun kicked off his presidential campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi and told the hicks who came out to see him that it was wrong for the federal government to tell Mississippi whether or not they could hang people for being born black. Then in 1988, Rush Limbaugh came on the air and said, “Don’t worry about thinking. I’ll do it for you. And I’ll tell you who you can blame for your sorry, pathetic, hate-filled life.”

Being a republican used to mean you had certain values and certain ideas that were fundamentally sound. You might not agree with them…but they were logically sound. Recently, it’s just become a character flaw…

  • Here is how this Libertarian sees it:

Michael Savage (call him Weiner if you’d like, I can name 100 super-liberals that use stage names, eg. Caryn Elaine Johnson, Ramon Gerardo Antonio Estevez, Susan Abigail Tomalin, et al – lets not call them by their stage names anymore either) says things you don’t like. Rather than try to make an opposing argument, you simply attack the messenger by going to his sponsors. How is this different than the race-baiter Al Sharpton or Bill O’Reilly for that matter? Debate the issues for goodness sake. Talk about why Muslims and Islam are so good rather than saying Savage is so bad for saying negative things. It is impossible for you to spread your message if you only attack other messengers.

There is no right and wrong when talking about ideology – only opinion. Liberals want to take my money that I work hard for and give it to others who did not do what I did (I came from a background of poverty, studied hard, went to college, etc – no welfare, just hard work and loans). Conservatives want to tell me who I can and can’t sleep with and what I can and can’t do in my own home. Even though this is what I feel and believe in, there is no right or wrong here – only my opinion.

So I support those that can advance my cause and speak out in a way to try to advance my cause. If I simply put down Hillary or Obama or Huckabee rather than supporting Ron Paul, I’d be doing myself a total disservice. It was like the liberal drive in Michigan to get Democrats to vote for Romney because he is beatable against Hillary or Obama. That is just plain dumb – be positive and support your cause rather than trying to bring another down.

It is like going to buy a new Toyota and rather than the sales guy telling you all the great things about the Toyota, he does nothing but tell you how crappy the Honda and Nissan are.

Michael Savage does not have the code nor the button for the Atomic Bomb – he can say what he wants – stick and stones, people!

  • “Liberals want to take my money that I work hard for and give it to others who did not do what I did (I came from a background of poverty, studied hard, went to college, etc – no welfare, just hard work and loans).”

No, not any more. Now, it’s conservaturds that wish to do that. They have taken my money and used it to pay off their friends. They have taken my money and used it to hire mercenaries to kill Iraqi children.

The clever thing is that the conservaturds take FUTURE money, money which doesn’t exist yet, and which hasn’t been collected. That money has already been stolen. Even more outrageously, they have stolen money from me and my children, and won’t even admit it. The entire Iraqi war to kill Iraqi children is being run by PRETENDING that it costs nothing.

I prefer honesty. Conservaturds today lie about everything. If stuff costs money, don’t lie and pretend that it is free. I’m much less stupid than the conservaturds seem to think.

  • Libfags have no brain, they will be killed in time no matter what side will win in the struggle against islamism. The other group will purge them for helping the enemy and the islamic side will purge them for being liberal. Either way they will meet a violent death

  • “Rather than try to make an opposing argument, you simply attack the messenger by going to his sponsors. How is this different than the race-baiter Al Sharpton or Bill O’Reilly for that matter? Debate the issues for goodness sake.”

If Michael Weiner’s radio show involved him advancing a conservative agenda, he’d be ignored.

Weiner seeks to make money by pretty much by saying this like this: “Libfags have no brain, they will be killed in time no matter what side will win in the struggle against islamism. The other group will purge them for helping the enemy and the islamic side will purge them for being liberal. Either way they will meet a violent death”

That such a comment should show up in THIS particular topic should shock no one. THIS is Michael Weiner’s show. That’s it…it’s fearmongering by pretending that there’s such a thing as “islamiscism” and such a thing as “islamic terrorism.”

I’ve read the Koran. In fact, I went to a Christian, radical, right-wing college and it was required reading. And I’m glad it was…because now I know that there is no such thing as “islamic terrorism.” It is a figment of the imagination of bigots and fools. There is no more an “islamic” side than there is a “Christian side.” (If you think there is, just check out a couple of wikipedia entries on topics such as: the Crusades, Martin Luther, Guy Fawkes, and the Church of England. Ask someone at my southern baptist alma mater what they think about sharing the same side with methodists and presbyterians and then tell me they are on the same “side.”)

You know why I don’t eat WonderBread? Because it sucks. It’s unhealthy, it tastes like a sponge and it has the texture of astro-turf. So I don’t buy it. And I won’t buy a sandwich or french toast at a cafe that uses it.

You know why I don’t like Michael Weiner? Because he’s a lying, bigoted, hate-filled, douche who profits by demeaning others. So I don’t listen to him. And I let his advertisers that he’s so egregious that I wouldn’t do business with people who associate with them.

I don’t know why that’s hard for a libertarian to understand.

I live in North Carolina. NOT THAT LONG AGO, there were restaurants that wouldn’t serve black folks. If they continued to do so today, I wouldn’t set foot in one of those places. Why? I’m not black. They aren’t discriminating against me. Surely, my boycott of such a business is understandable…

  • “Do you think 9/11 is a government conspiracy?”

No, I actually believe that a bold, determined, unrepeatable raid did 9/11. However, every single event since then has been a lie. I half-agree with the invasion of Afghanistan. It was a huge swindle in many ways.

There is one truth that we can certainly count on. No one, not one single person, in the US is in danger. NO DANGER WHATSOEVER. The only danger today is from the conservaturds. George W. Bush is the great enemy of normal Americans. Osama bin Laden is just a fake danger.

  • noah has the true mind of a libfag who will be put to death either by the islamic invaders or the rest who will kill him for helping the enemy

  • “Libfags have no brain, they will be killed in time no matter what side will win in the struggle against islamism. The other group will purge them for helping the enemy and the islamic side will purge them for being liberal. Either way they will meet a violent death”

Ah, another glowing example of today’s conservative Weiner fan.

Somedude, you should probably resume hiding from the brown people and teh gays there under your bed.

  • Savage is another guy with a persecution complex. I don’t wish to silence his voice – b/c it shows how crazy the right-wing fringe is – but it’s good to see him get marginalized and put in his proper perspective.

  • Like pussy ranting windbags like Savage? Buy Monster “energy” drink. He’s a co-founder and his son runs the thing (keeps Savage’s real name, not his made for Hollywood screenname). Ohh, “Savage” – what a MAN!

Oh, don’t like the whiner, don’t drink Monster. Simple as that. 😀

  • Makes no diffrence Noah you will be killed by either side

Further evidence that the right has as much claim to the term “pro-life” as a rock does to the term “thoughtful”.

  • Wow, Weiner has a posse- that has trouble distinguishing a boycott from government action…
Somedude- what’s with the “libfag” and “you will be killed” obsession? Compensating?

  • I heard & saw Savage once on TV. It was just after the Utah girl Elizabeth Smart had been found alive after a year as the “wife” of some maniac. Savage was very excited. He described this child as “ravished”. He noted that her that her face was flushed, her cheeks a rosy red. He left no doubt that he thought the girl had LOVED being a sex slave and that he loved that she loved it. His leery grin was sickening and he could not tear his eyes away from the TV monitor that kept showing the 15-20 seconds of the child. He literally was having an sexual fantasy on live TV. I believe this was on MSNBC. I kept expecting them to cut to a commercial or someone else to attempt to stop him.

He was vile beyond words. Find that piece of videotape & show it to his advertisers.

  • Somedud,

Lighten up Francis, very few (if any) republicans would survive the impending takeover of the islamocommunistofascist horde…wait, actually they would. If it were their ass (or yours) on the line, they (you) would sell out their (your) mother, father, hell their (your) whole family. As an example, look at how many are “serving” their country by fighting the “culture war” here on the homefront (Somedud = prime example).

Seriously, how do you function in society?

  • The best place to hit Weiner is informing bars, supermarkets that stock his family’s Rock Star Energy Drink who the person is that invented it. I’d never tell them they shouldn’t stock it, but it is good for them to know exactly who they are doing business with, and they can make their decision from there.
