Roy Moore still on the ‘campaign’ trail

Those of us waiting patiently to hear if theocrat Roy Moore will launch a presidential campaign on the Constitution Party ticket know that we’re running out of time. The deadline is next month, when the far-right party holds its nominating convention in Pennsylvania. By all indications, Moore won’t jump in.

But that is not to say that he’s keeping a low profile. Over the weekend, Moore traveled to Alaska and was greeted with a hero’s welcome among the state’s most conservative activists.

The good news, for those of us looking for a far-right Nader, is that Moore is still flirting with the idea of a campaign. Asked if he might run for elective office, Moore said, “Maybe sometime.”

The bad news, again from my perspective, was that he spoke to the 2004 Republican state convention. If he was seriously considering a Constitution Party bid, he’d be distancing himself formally of the GOP, not addressing its conventions.

My hunch is this is a lost cause. Moore probably won’t run this year. But I’ll keep watching, just in case.
