There weren’t any major surprises from Rudy Giuliani’s appearance on the Meet the Press yesterday, but the former NYC mayor did offer one bizarre comment that stood out.
“As people criticized [Bush], ridiculed him, did everything they could to get him off his agenda [of destroying global terrorism], he’s remained with it and it’s made the world safer and we have to continue in that direction in the next three or four years.”
While I’d certainly disagree with the notion that Bush has made the world safer — just the opposite appears to be true — I have no idea who Giuliani is referring to in the first part.
Is there anyone, anywhere who “criticized and ridiculed” Bush to get him away from an anti-terrorist agenda? I can’t think of any. Indeed, as Wesley Clark used to say during the primaries, we don’t criticize Bush for fighting a war on terrorism, we criticize him for not fighting a war on terrorism.
