I get tired of saying it, and you must get tired of reading it, but Dick Cheney’s pathological disdain for the truth seems to be getting worse, not better, as we get closer to Election Day.
Vice President Dick Cheney, who acknowledged last week that Iraq had produced no weapons of mass destruction after 1991, said Tuesday that under Saddam Hussein the country likely could have served as a source of weapons for terrorists.
“The situation we faced was Saddam Hussein and Iraq presented the most likely place where there could be a nexus between the terrorists on the one hand and weapons of mass destruction,” Cheney said.
Wha? A “nexus” between terrorists (who weren’t in Iraq) and WMD (which Saddam didn’t have)? Does Cheney really assume the country is stupid enough to believe such obvious nonsense? Don’t answer that; it’s a rhetorical question.
And Iraq was the “most likely place” to find this nexus? Is he for real? Cheney helped orchestrate a war with the only axis-of-evil country that didn’t have weapons of mass destruction.
Cheney may have missed the news last week, but the administration’s WMD argument has completely collapsed under its own fraudulent weight. And yet Cheney continues to make bizarre and dishonest arguments. He’s either a liar or a fool; it’s as simple as that.
